20+ years I've been animating in maya and never bothered with clusters (I'm mostly just a sculptor/painter/modeler/concept artist but I've ended up as the only 3d generalist on a project before and had to rig and animate out of necessity)...I wondered today if I could add a lattice to my rig rather than just use it once and delete it, this was super helpful. Thanks!

I too am a generalist so I feel your pain. You are welcome, amigo!!

I've realized there is a little 'toggle' above the opacity option below the Layers/Channels/Opacity. Sometimes when working on your file you may have 'isolated layer' layer by accidentaly right clicking on the mouse. That causes all layers to disapear. All you do is go to that toggle option and click on it to get your layers back.

Hope your doing well, I'm working on making a promo for someone and I'm getting back into Maya again just for this promo I'm working on. Jesús been a long time hope your doing well! If your wondering it's Rich who was a diehard fan hence my YT handle from your old classes! We should catch up if I get back to the bay been doing props and practical effects for a bit. Might head to ATL Cali has lost its luster, state had gone to a tard level like Ai did hahaha! Hope your Maya claymation animation went well damn that was a long time ago. If you see that punk Andrew Klien aka Van Wilder you can give him the mid IKSpline middle for me! Miss you much bro! Make sure you keep that sense of humor going! - Deuces

Hey Rich I am in So- Cal now working with Epic games. I am doing great. To make sure I am not getting my Richards mixed up, are you the one that traveled to Thailand not too long ago?? and you made an Unreal scene in portfolio class that was in the rain?

@@SeanSpitzer Hahaha Sean it's great that your doing Awesome and at Epic Games!!! Much love bro!!! Ha wrong Richard, but I can understand too many dicks to muddle through especially back at Ai! No bro I was in many of your classes used to travel daily from the valley to SF! I made the M.A.S.H. 4077 scene with the Heli, made the Nakatomi Building as well, damn trying to see what I remember as well to help jog that memory hahaha! Oh I made a Night-crawler for character modeling. Damn back in 2010! Wonder if you and Lin still chat by chance. As far as a linkedin nah bro been keeping life low. Right now I'm a freelance production designer and prop maker. Man have I had a wild life since we last chatted! Do you still have your email at 3dquestions? I'll hit you up there if you feel!? Hey its great hearing your doing well! Keep doing what your doing and I can speak from everyone I know and see here in your channel, as well as myself, thanks for everything and making the struggles and tediousness of modeling/rigging/animating fun and entertaining! I miss ya bro, life has a funny way of making the world revolve and circle back. You take care, I'm working on making/building my channel you'll see by mid next year, I'll send ya an invite when I do. Hey above all else bro thank you, didn't get a chance my last day at Ai to tell ya, was making my rounds to say goodbye, thanks to Klien, sorry don't have love for that guy! He maybe a different guy now, but damage was done. You take care bro we'll def catch up. Right now I gotta rig a Demogorgon for that promo, then animate and edit it in after effects with some props I'm building. Nice to mesh practical and 3d effects together to tell a fun tale! - Deuces

Cool video! Thank you! Do you know how I can get the position of an object which is inside an latticebox? I have a character body which is rigged with a lattice box. But I need the position of the shoulder midpoint for the arm animation. I put an object in the position of the shoulder, but an object which is moved by an latticebox has no movement in world space! Do you have an idea?

Try creating a group method if it acts buggy. Rotations are always a little tricky. Group methods can be good for isolation
