You should be wiping the top of the bottle with a serviette after removing the tip of the capsule and again after removing the cork according to the official Court of Master Sommeliers wine service guide.

check out the ones from a company called HiCoup. They are top notch, thats what I use now and they are sooo smooth they are, they are definitely worth the little bit more imho. Sturdy and makes opening corks an absolute breeze. I found a special for 20 bucks for the light brown colour. My knife work still needs some work, but I'm working on it

I'm really sry your missing to wipe the bottle mit with a clean napkin. Cause dust can still enter after opening. When you took the plastic or the seal in top you have to wipe it again with another clean napkin and at the end when you pulled the peg out. At that time you served to the customer who orderd it. You have to wipe once more with freshly napkin 'cause possibly particles of the gudgeon can still be in the neck of the bottle. And please i'm sry i never been a successfull sommelier like you but for my opinion. The Bottles' Label is always facing towards the consumer and would't never be picked up mid-air. But thank you for trying... and for all spelling or other mistakes: "Im drunk and i just want to comment" visit for more information : ...sry forgot to drunk... ehm did you know that Donald J. Trump is the choosen ONE?!!! Lucky I don't live in the U.S. - But you great American and Proud Citizens on the Left? How does it feel being "Living the Dream" - sounds like on Molly , Ecxtasy oder MDMA - when you open your Eyes you really see how your Lifequality is falling to a low point. You nearly would reached European Standarts like Sweden, Finnland, Denmark, even nearly Switzerland. Haaaa...but you failed and you've been tricked by your own system. Yeah you we're really draining the swamp but the system was stronger and you are the swamp of the world now. TRUMP and JFK Junior you are the choosen one!!

does the wine taste better if You open it the "right" way?
@fabianmckenna8197
@fabianmckenna8197 Жыл бұрын
You can break through the cork leaving debris in the wine. You can go in at an angle breaking up the cork leaving more debris in the wine You can go to shallow into the cork, breaking off the top and having to remove what's left. A bit more tricky. You an actually snap the neck of the bottle by pushing the corkscrew hard up and across instead of encouraging it to pull straight up. So the wine will probably taste fine but just take longer to serve!

@@Mooseman327 I got the screw in part right but was basically just trying to pull it out, while it was in the T position. It hurt the hand so I just resorted to pushing the cork inside the bottle or using a winged corkscrew. I just never learned how to actually use it.

@MontaluceVineyard
@MontaluceVineyard 3 жыл бұрын
You're not wrong for pulling off the foil, but cutting the foil is really all about tradition for many wine connoisseurs. Originally, wine bottles were sealed with wax, which was much easier and less messy to cut off the bottle. Once foiled bottles became a thing, popular opinion was to cut off the top, to preserve the winemaker's bottle design.

Ugh the only reason I looked this up is because I coil it way too much and the wine ends up with all of this stuff inside of it from that thing. I'm so glad I saw it
@AstiWines
@AstiWines 4 жыл бұрын
Keep in mind .... there are 5 coils in the wine opener's "worm". When you screw it to the 4 coil, it won't penetrate all the way through the cork .... and get flecks of stuff in the wine. Also, the hinge will seat better on the edge/lip of the bottle.

“A nice clean cut.” Easy enough with your “somm only” corkscrew. Blades on consumer corkscrews are sold dull or serrated. Both result in the cap being shredded instead of cut.
@DWilliam1
@DWilliam1 4 жыл бұрын
Andrew Yarosh Bullshit. I’ve had great cuts with $5.99 corkscrews. That said, if you’re into wine invest in a nice Chateau Laguiole or Aubrac corkscrew. Made in France, classic, you can pick your handle material and you now have a classy corkscrew that you can hand down to your kids. You can find them for $150 on sale. Only one you will ever need. Worth every penny.

@@VAULT-TEC_INC. So how do I sharpen the serrated ones? They are becoming ubiquitous on consumer level corkscrews.

@@DWilliam1 Well good for you, but I haven’t. And I’ve handled Laguiole, etc. with the same result. So how about coming up with practical (i.e. not $150 advice) instead of immediately going to bullying.
@DWilliam1
@DWilliam1 Жыл бұрын
@@andrewyarosh1809 Bullying? What are you a millennial? Despite the comment being made 3 years ago, the advice is the same. Go find a decent $5-$10 corkscrew. Many wineries sell them for the cheap to advertise their winery. They are solid and work well. Other than that, work on your technique. You need to use a bit of steady force when cutting the foil. Either that or stick with twist offs. Hope your Holidays went well.
