I have a doubt....at 1:41 we can see that the brushes are in contact with both the segments...i.e. the upper as well as lower one ...so doesn't this create any kind of problem in the flow of current or short circuit..??

I thought electrical current left through the negative terminal of the battery to the bike and returned through the positive terminal...

Electrons do but we say current flows from positive to negative, opposite of electrons.
