Fantastic video! Be question: if I do install 2 struts will I need 1/2 the Newton per strut? Given that two will add up to the same amount? Like if I need 60 Newton total, but install two struts, do I purchase 2 struts of 30 Newtons?
@oscaroverlander_MB1222AF2 күн бұрын
The answer is no don't split the force by two. Both have to have 60 Newton, otherwise you end up with two weak struts. Cheers

We have a large RO system in our house from the Aquarium supply. Was only $109 for four filters. But for the expedition vehicle I look at two types of fresh water. (1) showers and sink water (2) drinking and cooking water. With the drinking water, you can easily buy 5 gallon water in big stores, pour them in restaurant fluid rectangular containers, and carry 15-20 gallons on board for trips. Refill a 2.5 gallon container under the sink with a drinking water faucet on the counter.
@oscaroverlander_MB1222AF9 күн бұрын
Well our approach is a little different we have a 110 gal fresh water tank and a splitted filter system, providing drinking water only for the kitchen bathroom and shower . We want the big tank so we can stretch the off grid time to a max if we find a place we like.
@gator7019 күн бұрын
@@oscaroverlander_MB1222AF Just a question: my plan is for three weeks offgrid. Do you think I need more than 20 gallons just for drinking in three weeks? (as that is my plan) Other than that, fresh water for showers does not need this type of filter engineering.
@oscaroverlander_MB1222AF8 күн бұрын
@@gator701 I can't really answer that because I do not know how many people are with you or any kids or pets as well. What I know is nobody want to be short on drinking water, if you get stuck ( technical reason , health reason you name it ) I would always plan with a buffer. Now according to research the daily amount of water consumption for an adult is 4 liter to stay hydrated, also you brush your teeth, you prep your coffee, tea and food I would always do that with non questionable water and estimate an other 1 liter for it minimum . Total 5 liter a day x 21 days = 105 liter ( 27.7 gal ) 😶 If you have a GF or spouse x2 and if pet + 30% is total 241.5 liter ( 63.8 gal ) I hope that helped ! Cheers

Oscar is looking pretty good. Love the system great job on the installation, Mario one thing that I would recommend is to install a pressure regulator at the entry point, I hear of people blowing the system cause of the variances in pressure water from town to town and country to country . Keep up the good work. Sunny days ahead 😎
@oscaroverlander_MB1222AF9 күн бұрын
Thanks for the tips! Yes I have to check that there is of course different pressure at city lines. New build houses in the Vancouver area have less water pressure than older houses, they try to lower the water consumption that way. Cheers

Could please explain why you have welded your crash bar to the subframe and bolted it to the chassis below. How can the subframe and chassis move independently when they are solidly joined at the rear? Am I missing something?
@oscaroverlander_MB1222AF13 күн бұрын
Yes the rear point is the fixed point everything else can move. That way we don't transfer twisting force in to the habitat and it stays safe. There are many different frames available I choose the rail on rail frame with fixed point in the back, you also can build this one with fix point at the front or use a torsion free frame for more off road capability. You need to think ahead of time what frame type is suitable for your truck use. We don't need a subframe for extreme off roading, for us is it good enough if we can go on logging roads or here and there over small obstacles. Cheers

Why is one spare without rim?
@oscaroverlander_MB1222AF16 күн бұрын
Because those rims are not cheap and the extra weight is not needed. In case you have a flat or a ripped carcase you change the spare wheel with rim. In the rare case you have a second flat or broken tire, you have to change the tire on the rim before you can move on. But how often you have two flat tires on one trip ? It is not impossible but not very likely. Cheers
@JohnDoe-qr2cp16 күн бұрын

What force do you use if 2 struts are needed?
@oscaroverlander_MB1222AF17 күн бұрын
Both need to be the same, do the math on the force and use two with the same force don't divide the force by two. You are ending up with struts they are too weak to push up the weight.

The filler gauge dosn't have Volts. It's resistive. For the Victron system you'll typically have 0-180 Ohm. (Even tough you can adjust that on the Cerbo.) 😁
@oscaroverlander_MB1222AF17 күн бұрын
Well I should have been a bit more specific about my filler gauge because I have not a classic gauge with a float it is a Votronic tank electrode and those Votronic tank electrodes work with possible operating voltage 12V and 24V. Available in three lengths: 12-24cm, 15-50cm and 30-110cm. Cheers

Thanks for taking the time to document and share all these steps, really helpful. My westfalia water breather comes outside next to the fill, water pisses out when it is full, you'll have to make sure you watch how full it gets when you're filling! You answered questions for me a while back, I finally got my truck to BC. I drove it from Halifax, it was a great trip. Next step is extending the frame for a longer wheelbase. Your videos really help me keep perspective on all the things ahead.

That is actually a good point I had the same little pisser hole on my C-Class RV . I maid have to sleeve a hose over the breather and hang em out over the tank edge to the outside for the beginning to get a feel for it. 👍 I am a little jealous that must have been an awesome trip across the country with the new rig. That was excellent! I want to install a swing-up laundry table. When determining the force of the strut, how do you account for any objects that may place on the table?
@oscaroverlander_MB1222AF20 күн бұрын
You can do it! Well now you know how to calculate the force of your gas strut to bring and hold up your table top. But any object on top of the table can be calculated by adding the weight to the table top weight. But !!! This could be dangerous because when you add a basket with wet cloth for example. That would make the gas strut so powerful that the table top flips up with a extreme speed and force ! So someone could get hurt. I would not recommend doing such thing ! Cheers
