Looked absolutely fine at 1440p. It’s not the most optimised simulator ever to be honest. You keep calling it a game and aiming for 60fps but anything over 30 on FS is a bit unnecessary. Doubt the card is really an issue as it greatly exceeds the recommended.

I mean if u can do it, sure why not..better temps are better for the GPU. Ive seen XFX 7900xtx cards with great temps and Asus tuf versions with great temps but also very poor temps. The build quality in terms of thermal paste seems to be like the silicon lottery. I wanted to minimize the risk and got the Sapphire nitro+ for an extra 100€ for additional inbuild security and hopefully good build quality. My temps are very low and my delta is about 15°C, so for me it already payed off. And Im the type who doesnt wanna change the GPU after 2 years..That thing is meant to last :D

I don't think it's necessarily stupid to repaste your card within the warranty period, as long as you know your what your doing.. Yes, your GPU most likely being the most expensive part in your build, but there really isn't much difference than repasting your CPU, similarely the both use a heatsink that needs to come off and on, sure there are more and smaller screws and headers e.g. fan/rgb on the GPU to deal with, but I'd say other than that you need to do something really stupid to break your card. It's been well known by now by enthusiasts that many manufacturers, mostly AIB's cheap out on the TIM(well, usuitable one for longievity) which also was covered by Igors Lab in a recent video, which possibly why the influx of people discussing it.. But I'd say a valid arguments why people might to take matters in their own hands: An RMA will usually leave you without an GPU and working system for, well weeks, a month, perhaps even longer depending on factors like your store of purchase, manufacturer, your country/shipping and all that given that assuming your not within your return period. But If we assume the thermal issue is due to the paste/application which it usually is, when you RMA your card you will get a replacement that is using the same bad TIM which will sooner or later end up with the same bad thermals as your original card had. You can maybe accept this once, but when the issue returns, let say 3, 6 to 12 months later it might not, given that the solution is actually quite easily fixable your self by just using proper TIM, like PCM e.g. PTM7950. At the end of the day, it's your decision and what your comfortable with doing.

I bought a used RX 6700XT mining GPU last summer for $250 (original 2021 MSRP $579). I re-pasted it, overclocked it slightly above 6750XT core clock. It performs slightly better than a 4060Ti 16GB that, at the time, cost $500. It runs cool and quiet at factory fan curve. It was a much better budget option than the 4060, 7600, 7600XT, and the 4060Ti. I buy most of my cards used, the deals are just too good but, cleaning and pasting are a must.

Servicing your GPU is no different than building a PC. It's not complicated and it also doesn't void your warranty to replace your thermal paste, congress in the US passed right to repair laws that allow consumers to open and service their electronics and appliances. Void warranty if removed stickers are not valid in the USA, for other parts of the world yes but here, no.

I liquid metaled my 7900xtx and it dropped the core to the 50's but hotspot and memory junction will still get to mid 80's even with a custom fan curve and 15w/mk thermalpads. It's a hot card, if you max the power slider and have a 3-8pin card it will pull 400-450 watts continuously. On a waterblock it's not an issue the hotspots and memory junction sits low 70's. I have my card currently in an NZXT H1 case with an upgraded 850W psu with an i7-12700k, I have both gpu and cpu undervolted. It runs like a dream at 4k on my LG oled.

I just have to respectfully disagree with you on AMD when it comes to the high end buddy most people just do not have the money to own an AMD card for when they want slightly better performance in fps and then keep an Nvidia card for when they want to be able to significantly better Rt/Pt performance. It just makes a lot more sense that if your someone that wants to be able to do both to just get one card that can do that doesn't it? And I just don't think their prices are all that much better, especially at the high end. Most people looking at the higher end cards are not trying to pinch so many pennies lol….i agree they are an amazing option all day long at the low to mid range tier though

Audio issues aside there's some weird green smearing issue when I'm viewing this video. It might be youtube's fault, my phone/network, or yours. It happens a few times throughout the video. Audio issues is just a pain in the ass to deal with. I have a good mic setup but my room is just echoey with concrete walls and a thin door letting noise leak in/out of my room. If you want the best quality for the lowest price you'll just have to "eat the mic" and lower the sensitivity/increase the gain while having dampening material around you. Somewhere like a closet filled with clothes will do well. But that's just really impractical and using software to fix these issues is just easier than getting hardware. Things like rtx voice is really easy to use.

Typical AMD 7000 series shit. This isn't exclusive to just the XFX cards. The ASUS TUF 7900XTX I had ran super cool usually 60c core and 75-80c hotspot. The Power Color Red Devil had major heat issues too. I had 3 different 7800xt's with 30C+ deltas on the core/hotspot. Surprisingly the Nitro+ was the worst culprit of the 7800XT's the core temp would run low around 60-65c but the hotspot was 95c or more. The ASrock Phantom Gaming was the best followed by the Red Devil. Even then they were teetering the line between acceptable and not. Meanwhile my 4080 Super runs an average 15c delta. The best thing you can do is to use a Kryo Sheet instead of paste in a 7000 series card.

I honestly would have returned it and got another one. When you unboxed it the thermal pads fell out and you got it on camera. You might have just got a bad card. That said I don't know much about AMD GPU'S and that could be normal temps. If repasting doesn't void your warranty go for it.

It's true that the GPU might be able to take the heat, but will the rest of the components in the computer be able to handle that over time? Most likely not. So, yes, heat is important to have in control on all components that gives out a lot of heat. Many of us isn't a fan of having a computer with so many fans that it sounds like a jet engine.

I have the same GPU from XFX, it's been with me for more than 2 months and the delta is still within 10-14 c without repasting anything. maybe I got lucky with the factory thermal application. I've heard PTM 7590 is performing really well for these gpus. As a matter of fact, XFX's new model Phoenix Nirvana uses PTM instead of paste. PTM is more resistant to the pump-out effect. If you are going to repaste, use that or a very viscous thermal interface or PTM. Keep in mind PTM takes a bit more time to get nice results, as the solution itself needs to melt first.
@mattparsons859812 сағат бұрын
Have you ever RMA'd a GPU? You're not going to get YOUR GPU back - you're going to get a Refurb which might have the exact same problem or some other problem. They're still going to use the same cheap paste with the potential to end up in the exact same situation. You're also going to be without your GPU for likely a month + due to how slow/shit most of the GPU MFG's service is (I miss EVGA) It is worth noting though some companies like Sapphire will try to deny you warranty claims if you've taken the card apart (yes I know of the MM act - go and read their warranty terms) I went through THREE XTX's with junction temps of 105C+; There's no reason for VRAM to be running 5 degrees off junction; you're begging for artifacting in a year and a half or so. But Sapphire AND XTX were both just fine with these temps. I do agree with your stance on taking brand new GPU's apart - they're expensive as shit and should come with working cooling solutions from factory. Fortunately we're starting to see some PTM7950 from factory cards which *should* improve the situation. My solution to this is to send it back and order a new one; I'll take an old GPU apart but I'm expecting a brand new one to work. Your temps sound fine though I would be just fine with hotspots below 90. That being said repasting a GPU really isn't a difficult process. Though I'd recommend everyone practice on a lower end GPU they don't care about so they can get a feel for the process. Don't have your first time be on a $900+ piece of HW so you're nervous as fuck.

I just wanted to report that I definitely see your argument on warranty, but I had already ordered some Honeywell PTM7950 for my XFX Merc 7900 XTX. It took a while to put it on the core and the memory, but from my initial testing, the delta between the core and the hot spot went from 25-30 to around 15. A fairly large improvement. I saw in a teardown of the newer magnetic fan version of the card that XFX was using the PTM7950, which XFX claimed had improved thermals. Interesting timing coincidence between your video and my activities. Take care.

Main difference in boost Algo between Nvidia and AMD is that AMD goes off Hotspot temps to adjust boosting. Nvidia I’m not so sure but from my examinations it runs off the GPU core temps. So if your XTX is hitting like 100c then your headroom is very limited vs when it’s like 85. My XTX hotspot would run in the 90s unless I lowered boost clocks then the hotspot delta would be like 10 degrees instead of 25-30. My 4080 super only hit 80 on hotspot if I OC and raise the power limit. But mines Undervolted to .925v and the hotspot delta at times is between 5-10 degrees unless I have my AC off then it could be a little higher. Winter time it should be ice cold honestly up here in NY. But if it starts to hit that 96 and up on the hotspot and your core temp is in the 60s it might be worth checking out
