I hate how this game is intentionally vague on details in a game that's intentionally vague on anything navigation, just to waste your time and call it "replay value." "About a kilometer from your position" it's almost 1200m, how's that for approximation.

You're better off (in both games) aiming for "power generation to reactor", or building a cascading genset. - if you're above 100m Solar to Bioreactor is a good option. Above 200m Solar to Geothermal. 300m, and below Geothermal to Nuclear. Fuel doesn't decay, so the game will use constant sources before fuelled sources. Therefore those converted biomatter stores, and Nuclear fuel rods go a long, long way. - So much so, that 8x nuclear fuel rods should cover you for an entire play through involving around 30hrs realtime. The only thing to watch out for, is making sure the power connects to a HAB directly. Don't let it connect through the foundation parts. It gets wonky. Building a main reactor will stop that flickering effect, even if you don't actually fuel it.
