Wow! That's controversial. It's all down to personal preference, of course, but if one my hooks fails the nail test, it gets changed. I may sharpen the hook to see if I can reuse it, if not, it's binned. I have recast the same rig after I've caught a fish - but only if it passes the nail test.

Albeit a valid point but Mark fishes with bottom baits and has banked many big fish using this tactic, for the chod rig to of worked he would of had to deviate from fishing on the bottom
@1966wasp
@1966wasp 7 ай бұрын
@PBPRODUCTSUK not at all. Just using a bottom bait on a stiff section like he's already doing. But have more contact with the chod setup. Using the bead high is like using a long rig without the anxiety.
@Toronto_James

Nothing new here. Watched someone use pretty much exactly the same rig as this fishing in the weed on Alders trout lake over 30 years ago. He used a shot as an anchor with a critically balanced bait on a 4ft silkworm hooklink with 2ft closest the lead treated with superglue to stiffen it up to avoid tangles. Watched him catch 4 fish - all of them swam over the weed & we saw them take the bait from the high bank behind the swim.

Have I missed where he says whether it’s a pop up or bottom bait? I presume it’s a pop up but you never know with Mark 🙈 seeing as he loves a bottom bait as per his last rig demo

@@PBPRODUCTSUK why do you need to counter balance it with weight then? sorry it’s just not explained … that’s why I thought it was a pop up. Surely over weed you wouldn’t want more weight than is required.
@PBPRODUCTSUK
@PBPRODUCTSUK 7 ай бұрын
@@jamesbarr6379 The point mark has made on this is to help keep the the most important part of the hook link pinned down , whilst also aiding hooking. By doing so instead of using putting he can help keep it pinned down with the concept above

The long boom is doing nothing to aid presentation, especially when you stick a mesh bag on it. A std heli set up and a critically balanced bait will do the job just as well.

You can always put some foam nugs in your PVA bag to help. Think some call it the parachute rig?
@PBPRODUCTSUK
@PBPRODUCTSUK 7 ай бұрын
@@walmead Two solid answers have been put forward there, not everybody is right in what they think and everybody has an opinion which is what keeps the carp on their toes. The thought process behind this is to slow the rig down and to lay on top of low lying weed, he must be correct as it worked for him landing not only the biggest fish in the lake on this setup but bracing it with just under 100lb of fish!

And what pattern of hook is he using I noticed it’s a wide gaped hook with a turned in eye but almost looks as if he’s turned the eye in slightly more ? 🤔but I could be wrrong 🤷🏻‍♂️and lastly is this a rig suitable for all year depending on the lake bottom obviously or is it predominantly a winter rig because of the type of weed thats present as in comparison to the summer?
