We agree on the top four (but not quite in the same order)… but Night Watch is the BEST.

City of Last Chances was not only slow, it was boring. There were far too many characters and none were fleshed out enough to make it interesting. The setting and ideas were cool and unique, but man those characters were weak as heck. Really interesting ideas from Tchaikovsky but overall I think it missed its mark.

What I really love about the jokes and references that Pterry included in his novels is that they were so well-written, it didn't matter that you maybe were unaware of the source of said joke - it was funny and clever in its own right. Of course, that just means there's a little nugget waiting for you to discover on later readings. The amount of times I've picked up a Discworld novel and found something new is mad. One you may not know about, and he told me about it when he and a bunch of us fans were doing a recording for a book programme on BBC Radio 4 (featuring Mort). In the open question session, I'd asked about his habit of inserting pop culture puns (specifically mentioning 'Fabricati diem punc'), and he gleefully told us of an especially subtle one in Wee Free Men. Basically, at the point when Tiffany goes back to look for Miss Tick, all she finds is a talking toad. The toad had been left behind to lead Tiffany to people (the Nac Mac Feegles) that could help her. On the way, she asks why he's yellow, and the toad replies that he's been ill. Tiffany had to follow the yellow, sick toad. Oh my gods. When he told us this (and it may be available somewhere on the interwebs), we absolutely lost it. What a mind.

I wish I had thought of the accessibility options when my kids were younger. That would have been amazing! I have only read Anxious People by this author and unfortunately I didn't like it, but that very well could've have been impacted by the narrator. It was written to be repetitive with new, subtle details each time but it drove me crazy. However, this book sounds like something I would like. Great video...your family is beautiful.

Worst fantasy character: Tom Bombadil. A "mystery box" waste of time in a series that already has pacing issues.

Dangit Christina, stop making me cry!! 🤣 But for real, I do think this is a great book that shows how much impact one person can have, especially when their actions speak louder than their words. That even the thorniest person is loveable in their own way! I do hope you're able to convince Allen to read it... If a 4 part vlog can't do it, I'm not sure what can. ;D

I hope you go on to read all of Backman's books! With the exception of the novella A Deal of a Lifetime I found them all excellent. Personally my favorite was the Beartown trilogy but the first book was the hardest to get through due to the subject matter.

I haven't read this book, but this secret vlog makes me think I'm missing out on a very well written piece of literature. Also, thanks for putting yourself and the content out here. And praise to Allen for being a good husband and offering up consolation that moment when the crying was happening. It's those moments that I think are a testament to your relationship and family. Can't wait to see how this ends.

No wait this can't be the conclusion. Where is the rest 😅 Anyway this has been a delightful experience listening to your comments and recalling my own reading experience, all the funny sweet sad and touching moments throughout. For me, the lesson is don't just turn away from grouchy people, be like Parvaneh and barge in and include them anyway. And if I am the grouchy person, let yourself be included.

YES YES YES! Luffy’s voice actor IS Luffy and I can’t accept anyone else. She is so perfect in the role! Luffy English VA is the main reason I can’t watch the dub; I’m sure she does a good job with other characters, but she is definitely NOT Luffy 😅

the currently one video that exists on my channel - it only exists because of one piece changing my life & motivating me to actually do what i wanted the same year i made & uploaded it. i like kinda want to do a series where i get my mom into one piece via a mix of the manga (for slower arcs like skypiea & dressrosa) & the anime (for my favorite moments i've beheld).

You guys are the best example I've seen of how a couple can navigate their way through life together. The two of you are a delight to watch and listen to. Thank you for sharing what are very personal experiences! I myself (37) have relatively recently been discovering that a good bunch of my inadequacies, quirks and struggles point towards potential neurodivergence of some sort. But because I'm me, I've been putting off getting checked out for well over a year now. I am also not able to talk about it to anyone dear to me because I feel like I don't want to "talk about it", I just want to KNOW what's what. And one more thing: Allen describing his reaction to the pregnancy hit me hard! When my wife told me she was pregnant half a year ago, I wept because I felt that my life was now over and I would never ever have a minute to myself let alone read a book (priorities, right?). I still regularly feel shame about that initial reaction. But hearing Allen's story has helped me see my own episode in a more forgiving light. I love having you guys around! Thank you!

I read A Man Called Ove almost ten years ago now and I still remember it being an emotional roller coaster. I loved it so much and have never cried or laughed more from a book. When you wrote that comment about knowing that pain I bawled with you ❤🥲 But I am so happy that you and Allen finally got a happy ending. You can just tell how wonderful of a mother and wife you are. I’m looking forward to next surprise vlog, these are fantastic!
