What kind of pins are using to attach your leader to the backing?
@LeahDay10 сағат бұрын
I've been using glass head pins, but recently switched to Magic brand longarm pins and they are great! We're aiming to add them to our website soon.

No wonder I haven't seen you for so long, I always watch my recommendations. How sad but I'm back with remembering to start watching for you. This is so pretty and the paper stencils idea is awesome. I need all these patterns. Glad to see you my quilty friend!!!! Stay safe

Thank you for watching! Yes, algorithms are hard on notifications and subscriptions these days. It's a lot better to regularly search for the people you like to watch and see if anything new is posted. I'll try to do better with using the notification area too, but honestly, I don't have much control over this and have accepted that. Have a wonderful day!

Well, I don’t have a Grace Continuum. I have the Grace Majestic. Old one, yes. lol. That’s ok. It still works great. My husband made me an adapter for attaching the Idler arm, which was my batting rail, that I don’t use. Works great, just thought I could get something a little better and/more professional. I don’t know why, it works. All that matters, right. Thanks Leah, for all the work you do, to educate us.

I love love your sea oats design and have incorporated tiny swirl birds in it for a possible place in my bird log cabin quilt. How do you use this as an all over edge to edge design? I am a new quilter and up to now have only tried straight line quilting. I have tried to make it meandering but it gets all lost and unbalanced. Would you just do it in rows? On a juki home machine. Thanks! Karin
@LeahDay17 күн бұрын
I recommend trying one of our paper quilting stencils to help you master free motion quilting - leahday.com/products/quilting-stencils I'll see about adding a Sea Oat with swirl birds... that is very specific and sounds cute! Quilting on the stencils gives you something to focus on and a linear path from left to right. The paper is very easy to rip away after you're done so long as you beat up the quilt a little bit (roll it up with the paper to the inside and outside). I hope that helps!
@2thoughtful17 күн бұрын
@@LeahDay Thank you! My first attempts are pretty primitive, but I wish I could send you a picture. I have a number of very easy birds I practiced from different line drawings. But I like the curlicue bird best and it is smoothest. I’ll look at the stencils. Thank you again.

I don’t understand the way the foot works…it looks like it is “hopping” but I don’t see a spring…..
@LeahDay17 күн бұрын
This particular foot is on an older Bernina sewing machine - a 1230. The hopping is within the foot bar itself as the needle moves up and down. Newer Bernina machines have a compatible ruler foot so make sure you work with a Bernina dealer to get that for your machine.

I noticed you locking your channel locks on the carriage. How can I get that? My machine doesn’t have it.
@LeahDay20 күн бұрын
It’s not 100% required to use channel locks to hold the machine in place. I’ve attached QCT to a Cutie Breeze which doesn’t have channel locks and it worked just fine. Having them locks is convenient, but it’s not something you must have for this to work. In fact, if you forget and leave your machine locked in a direction, it would conflict.

@@LeahDay yep. I made one out of a piece of pvc pipe. It works pretty good, but is kinda hard to get on the wheel. I did forget to take it off, one time. Minor issue but I learned from that mistake…lol. I like the looks of yours. I really don’t know why I’m watching this video. I’m not automating my long arm…lol. Just like to watch your videos. Thanks

Leah, do I need to change anything about the take up rail, since I’ve added an idler rail?
@LeahDay17 күн бұрын
The take up rail should be higher than your Idler Rail so the quilt builds up in the arm of the longarm instead of right against the quilt. Other than that, everything else stays the same.
@mjp512917 күн бұрын
@@LeahDay thanks Leah. I attached the idler height, just enough to slip my fingers to the first knuckle, under the rail and at a slight angle to the take up rail. The take up is about 2.5” above the idler. I haven’t quilted anything but a practice piece, but seems to work pretty good. I also changed my belly bar. I’m copying yours. Removing the leader cloth and I’m going to buy those clips you use. Just have to get that glue residue removed from the rail. I changed the actual rail from the take up with the back/belly rail and vice versa. So I didn’t have to reinstall the longer leader. Sorry. Didn’t mean to make this a novel. Just so excited, about how much easier it’s gonna be to quilt, since that’s my least favorite part. Now, it won’t my quilting any better, even after 11 years, lol, but the doing it will be less stressful. Thanks again for all the inspiration. I’ve watched you from the beginning. You’ve done so well for yourself and family. 👍

I understand that you don't ship outside of the USA but a lot of us Canadian's order things just on the otherside of the US and we go across the border to pick them up. I have family there and send things to my moms and get them when I visit. I suggest to change your website to let us see what you are selling and just warn us that you don't ship outside of the US. I hope this helps and encourages you.

Do all the clamps come with the frame, or do you have to but them separately?
@LeahDayАй бұрын
Yes, front, side and back clamps come with the frame. The only clamps sold separately are the bungee clamps and I find them less necessary or helpful with this frame due to the location of the bungee attachment.

I find the challenge is the overlap by the lower end. With Barbies, the hip versus waist is such a large difference that we can see their behinds and the overlap at the V isn’t smooth which is not cool for stylish dresses. Maybe a zipper?
@LeahDayАй бұрын
If you want to take on inserting a zipper only 3 inches long, that’s totally up to you! With my dress pattern, I was careful to overlap the back’s nicely and there isn’t a huge difference between the bunny’s hips and waist. As for surviving a toddler, make sure to backstitch at the back of the dress skirt seam. Betty had ripped one dress in this spot and it taught me to double check my backstitch in this area!
@chickadeeacres386429 күн бұрын
@@LeahDay thanks! I always backstitch, it’s been ingrained in me. I find it sad that toddlers are now playing with Barbies and by 7 or 8 they’re in such a hurry be adults. Back in the day, I dressed Barbies until 14! I learned to sew basic stuff and loved the design/fashion side of it.

Hello Leah, how do you get perfect points on the block to match up? I cannot get perfect points despite cutting everything just so. Also is it possible to make a 5" sawtooth block? Thanks
@LeahDayАй бұрын
If you're sure your cutting is accurate, it's most likely your seam allowance. Stitch, then measure your seam allowance and check that you're taking away exactly 1/4-inch. I don't have a pattern for a 5-inch finished Sawtooth block personally. 4, 8 or 12 inch sizes will be easier to find because this is based on a 4 x 4 grid.
