nice looking Slipway, should aid in the build process, are you intending to display the ship on the slip way, or just use it for the build, if just using for the build I wouldn't paint or stain, if your going to use it to display stain.

Joe, well it looks like you’re on your way for the Santa Maria build. One thing I found helpful was after the skeleton was finished, was not using the side locks. Having the freedom of rotation (About 270 degrees) work well for me. Especially during the planking phase.
@genojoe3176
@genojoe3176 25 күн бұрын
Van, I was scratching my head on that and wondering, why use the sides locks? And you just answered my question. Will do, thank you! I agree the rotation is necessary. I saw you painted the slipway and I think I am going to as well.

Hi Joe , I have the Model Expo push nailer (brown handle) works well. Ordering directly from OcCre is really nice and easy. Even requesting spare parts. Love the idea of having your wife getting involved, I think she’ll like it. Finishing up the dyeing of the hull on the Santa Maria. Part 4 should be out in the beginning of August.

I'm just starting "final lap" with my schooner "Polotsk" by Master Korabel, russian company from Sankt Petersburg, in my humble opinion one of the best in the world, although their kit ropes are a big mistake, so is necessary to buy or do correct ones. Few words about me: I'm living in Gdansk, city in north Poland, and all my life I've worked in ship repair yard Remontowa. Now I'm pensioner.

Wolfgang summed it up well. @wolfgangzinn 21 minutes ago Thank you very much. Yes, the choice of glue is (almost) a science. My simplest rule is: if it doesn't have to hold immediately and can dry, then white glue, especially with light-coloured yarn. For brown or black yarns, superglue often works, or if a dark discolouration of the natural yarn is not noticeable.

CA glue can be very brittle, I do use CA for rigging and have not come across this issue, it could also be the cotton used, 9 times out of 10 I replace the kit cotton.
@genojoe3176
@genojoe3176 2 ай бұрын
I will try Starbond with my next ship which I received from Amazon. Yesterday a total of 3 more deadeyes snapped from the masts and yards as I was working with them. The thread used was the OcCer brand that was received with the kit. So as it stands it was OcCer thread and both Loctite and Gorilla standard CA, not gel. I certainly do not want that to happen on my next build which is the Santa Maria from Pavel. Is there a recommendation about replacing the cotton besides Rope of Scale?
