I am french and I'm pretty sure (mostly because I double checked) that it's called a "vieille à roue" (wheeled old one) not a "vieille rouge" (red old one)

True, its a vielle a roue, and this one was named by Bernard Kerboeuf: vielle rouge. (I.e: its a dog named Doug 😉)

would you tell me the diameter of the wheel please and also the string spacing. I am making a gurdy and this info would be helpful.

you might have more luck asking those kinds of questions on reddit. there is a subreddit called buildagurdy and I think the people there might help. I do not think string spacing is as important on a traditional stringed instrument because your fingers arent actually pressing the strings and the "neck" or "fingerboard" doesnt have to narrow down inside the keybox. In fact it probably shouldnt. I am also doing research on how to build such a thing, lots of people start with box gurdys but i prefer a lower less tinny sound. If you have any information on where I could find a good picture or explination on the headstock of one of these let me know!
