This show was also repeated on C4, alongside the Trumptonshire trilogy of shows, Roobarb, Ivor The Engine, Clangers, and Paddington Bear. (1975-76)

Nigel Williams was my father! I have a vhs of this still. Been meaning to get it digitised forever. I wonder if the sound is the same on my copy. Thanks for uploading, I haven't seen it for 20 years or more even.

How ironical is it, the NHS was created with American money, the county which they hated deeply and betrayed too.

This was/is a magnificent production. I watched it when it was first broadcast on British TV and was mesmerised. I am a Classicist and have read Sophocles in Greek - this production taught me more about the play than reading any number of academic articles about it.

I remember seeing this so vividly - absolutely amazing staging. We were on the moving Platform Seating and when the whole Set moved, it felt so so real.

Judging by the quality of the recording this film was indeed made in the 18th century.

In Canada the rather deep drop into the Broc would be fenced off. In Britain and Europe there seems to be a sensible few that if you're such a twit to not notice a 20 foot shear drop you are a rather waste of oxygen.

As much as it hurts me to say this, but Hilda’s actress sounds unlikable in real life, like she’s trying to be funny when she is not. ‘All my ex boyfriends wouldn’t be living’.

While I share the distaste of all thinking people towards the BBC's wokism, they did and do produce some genuinely excellent material, in between the bursts of hatred. So glad to see this classic again after all those long years. WOO!
