Gorgeous! Did you try the spray sticky stuff on the stencil back at all?? 💕
@UrsulaSmith
@UrsulaSmith Ай бұрын
Hi Donna! Hope you're having a great summer! I have tried the spray removable adhesive either the stuff they make for quilting or mounting adhesives- Blair makes a really good one and krylon is okay as well. I go back and forth whether I'm going to use either the sprays or the zig marker with my stencils because a lot of times I use both sides and having sticky on one side can interfere. Also sometimes spraying over with lots of wet media can reactivate the glue and then cause problems. So it's probably a personal choice and if I had all the time in the world I would make doubles of everything, maybe even triples so I could have one that is sprayed with adhesive on one side, another one with the adhesive on the other side and one that was just plain. But, I never have that kind of time 🤣🤣🤣. Have an awesome rest of your day!

I was looking for something to hold work so glad you mentioned that. I had a major surgery in my left hand so it's hard to hold pieces when sawing. Still looking for a clamping device. I did contact Knew Concepts to see if they could come up with a clamping device for this bench pin. We'll see. If not, thinking about using longer screws and gluing a piece of leather under the bar.

I haven't tried the Amazon paper you mentioned, thank you for the link, I will have to try that out! I also had no idea that Duralar came in more than one weight, the pad I have is the same as your older one. Michaels recollections papers have worked quite well for me with detailed cuts on my Scan 'n' cut, having the autoblade seems to help as it seems to cope with small variations in thickness and different weights of card, Hammermill have some good options too - they do a 12x12" size which is useful for boxes and frames. Do you have to adjust the settings for the blade with either of your machines? I'm not so familiar with that brand's operating system. I wonder if a fresh blade would help with some of the little torn areas, plus sometimes if my mats need to be restuck, my papers lift and get caught in the blade too, so a sticky mat and fresh blade, or a sharpened blade can help prevent those things from happening.
@UrsulaSmith
@UrsulaSmith 6 ай бұрын
Thanks for all the tips! I do have to adjust the blade on my Blackcat Cougar but not on my Silhouette Curio. I have tried Recollections and that definitely works as do a lot of other papers when I am doing less intricate designs. The problem is I love scrolls and tiny cutouts for my jewelry work and so for those-especially the combination of intricate scrolls and tiny- the normal papers don't work well. I definitely agree with you that the stickiness of mats is one of the most critical pieces to make sure that the cutouts work well! I try to walk that line between having good stickiness and tossing another mat. I actually have some footage of some of the things I've done with old mats but it hasn't been edited and released yet haha. I'm still so far behind! 😁 Thanks for visiting and especially for commenting with all that great information! Have an awesome day! ❤️

Hi Ursula, I really like those dies and the process..funny, when you were using the press and it was going to the resistance I caught myself squinting and trying to listen for that little pop. Hey you know the little bags that come in Tennis shoes, aspirin, vitamins, etc that keep out moisture ? My work bench and tool box drawers are full of those and they work keeping my tools rust free. Every time I get one I throw it in one of many drawers. I love how those pieces came out, you had my attention, again. Thank you, have a great night.

Hi again Deby!! I love your comments!! Thanks again!! But just an FYI on those sachet thingys (dessicant packets or something like that) I did the same thing, but apparently if you leave them ON anything steel, they can eventually fill with enough moisture that they leak and start to rust the metal!! I forget which jewelry related group that was posted in, but I only leave them in or around, never on my tools and only for a little bit and check them often and toss them after a while. I keep my good stuff in tupperware or plastic bags too. And I run a dehumidifier. It's not super humid where I am thank goodness so I don't have to battle rust like some folks do- that would be a pain!!! Have a fabulous night! I'm turning in PS- I need more drawers in my space 😊

Never heard of those dies but I use my steel rule dies on my leather scraps in colors that I get from Etsy and they work great. I am also thinking about going to faux leather and faux suede. I love my Big Shot. I clean aluminium cans , open them cut them then use them with the embossing pads I have..really cool stuff. The only thing I do not like is the acrylic pads because of warping, marks, etc.. so I heard you can buy those self healing mats in pretty much the same size and use those instead. I'm going shopping ! Where did you get the mylar mats ? Happy New Year !!!
@UrsulaSmith
@UrsulaSmith 7 ай бұрын
Hi Deby! I use my Accucut steel ruled dies too on leather. I made a bunch of ornaments that way this Holiday season. So much fun! And I agree- the Sizzix has served me well for so many years!! I haven't video'd or posted these, but I've done embossing on the super thin metal (like the cans) and then glued to altoid tins. Very fun indeed! I do have the self healing mats (they are black) and I have to say don't love them all that much. I like the purple ones from Accucut much better. They seem to last forever! And those you can cut with tin snips to make them smaller when you just need to cut/emboss a small part of a die. Hope that makes sense. I have filmed that buried in one of the videos in my leather series ;) I think I got the mylar from Sizzix if I remember correctly. It might be listed as plastic shims. One of the Stamping or Scrapbooking sites like SimonSays or Scrapbooking.com might have them too. OnlyOneLifeCreations is an awesome site too. Thanks again for watching and commenting! @@UrsulaSmith What a great idea with the Altoid tins and I have a few around. I was also going to cover some old larger cigar boxes to make purses. Temu sells the cutest antique looking feet, latches and hinges for cheap. What did you not like about the self healing mats if you don't mind telling me before I buy ? Did you try alcohol inks on the embossed tin ?I saw someone do that and blow different colors around and it was really pretty.
@UrsulaSmith

@@DebyNieto-kq2ci I can't quite take credit for the altoid tin- a guy on one of my jewelry sites mentioned using it with the press and I decided to go another route since I wasn't that experienced with the press yet 😉 I'd love to see your purses! I bet those will be so cool! And If we are talking about the same thing- I didn't love the black magic mat because it didn't seem to do either cutting or embossing well. The Accucut mats worked better for me. If I am doing tiny or intricate cutting, I use the Sizzix Chrome Precision Base Plate and if I am doing embossing with alternative stuff like my Yupo paper embossing plates, or stencils, etc I use the Sizzix Embossing mat and rubber that came with it. Hope that helps! Oh an yes I did use alcohol inks on some of them. Some of the copper ones I actually flame colored, but others I either left plain or used the inks. Have a great evening! Hi Ursula! My dad has a camera store when I was growing up. He always used seating wax when wrapping gifts. No tape allowed. My first job was wrapping presents at his store. We had sticks of wax that we would melt in the flame of a candle. Sometimes you’d get a little swirl of soot from the flame. We would lick the stamp just before stamping the melted wax. It seemed to keep the stamp from sticking to the wax.

@UrsulaSmith
@UrsulaSmith 9 ай бұрын
Hi Donna! You can certainly try to do that and if the design is simple it should work on a digital cutter. My designs are typically very intricate and I never had success trying to cut stencil material. So when I found Yupo and the other plastic type papers I was ecstatic! They cut great and although they are a little thin, stacking them makes them equivalent to the depth of the stencil material and works just as well. It's a little fiddly but for my designs it works much better than the stencil plastic. But absolutely give that a shot if that's what you have. You may have more luck than I did! 😊 Thanks for visiting and commenting! Have an awesome day!

Hi Marcy! I'm not sure if you mean the machine that I'm using or the tools to actually make the impressions. I have a whole playlist of all the different things I've tried to make the impressions including embossing folders and paper cut outs, polymer clay, and embossed metal, etc. In all of these, well actually most of these, experiments I am using the Sizzix Big Shot machine ( a pretty old one 😊) to do the embossing. There is one video where I use an Accucut machine and a Potter USA impression die to emboss with, so that is not for the general person probably 😉. Hope that answers your question? Let me know if it didn't. Have a great night! Thanks for watching!

Couldn't you just use the metal die itself? Maybe spray it with cooking oil so it doesn't stick?
@UrsulaSmith
@UrsulaSmith 10 ай бұрын
Hi Fiona! That would certainly be worth a try if the die is flat on the non cutting side and is the exact shape you want. However, sometimes the dies have holes to poke the paper out on the non cutting side. Also, the wood does wouldn't work at all. And many times I take just pieces of the die cut image not the whole thing and some shaoes I even cut myaelf on the digital cutter. So for all those other instances, using the die cut is your best bet. Thanks for watching and commenting! Have a great day!

Thank you very much for sharing these tips! I really appreciate all you’ve done in experimenting and working out the kinks😍😉. I found you a few months ago when I was was going through my own DIY embossing folder challenges. Your previous video using molding paste & extra heavy gel mix on a cut plastic sign was fantastic! I am using 4 layers of opaque craft plastic (budget friendly yupo) so I can get a really deep impression on heavy stock. I had been having fits trying to get all the layers to stay together so I could apply the paste. Craft glue was a joke no matter how long I left it to dry. Super glue oozed through the fine stencil details and gave me welded fingers😢😢. Just last week I saw someone using the spray version of glue all and I remembered spray 77 💡. I went to amazon to see the options. I saw this same reposition-able photo mount and wondered🤔. Now I know. Thank you😉🙏🏾
