One of the themes of this album that really struck me was Lord Huron's departure from an idealistic view of love in what I felt were traditional "love stories" in Lonesome Dreams and Strange Trails. Previously the characters in their albums embarked on quests either with the intention to return to their lover (Lonesome Dreams) or because they were looking for love along the way (Strange Trails). The loss of a lover at the end of Strange Trails is tragic, but the love itself wasn't tarnished. Vide Noir (both the album and the film) set up a similar story but in the end Buck is left to realize that, even after completing the quest that brought his life meaning, the love he thought he shared with Lee wasn't real. In this way, I feel like Vide Noir sets up a more realistic depiction of love stories that we see in Long Lost, in which partners can lie, cheat, be jealous/possessive, or fall out of love altogether. They propose getting lost instead of questing for a person or a specific goal. Long Lost forces the audience to depart from finding meaning in love and find it instead within the self.

I been waiting for a MM official lyrics book so soooo long.... I finally made a homemade MM lyrics book, because i consider them poetry. And believe me I speak three languages and MM lyrics are amongst the best of what I've heard in indie/rock music.

By some chance found myself talking Nick Drake with Richard Hawley in a Sheffield pub. I saw him live which was a rare event and I wondered why he looked at his shoes - apparently using one mike for guitar and vocals - also frequent retunes between songs … no banter … still mesmerising.

I forget where we were is the most underrated album of all time.. so beautiful, deep and haunting. Also the Burgh island Ep. I love his deep music, the next 3 albums didn't do it for me but I have great respect for Ben, he's so talented. ❤

Sad irony that companies use something made out of desperation and misanthropic self discovery to promote a vapid, mad men ideal of keeping up with the Johnsons.

I saw lord Huron live in 2021 and it was a transcendent experience. I understood in that moment nothing mattered, but I can still feel everything.

No, it doesn't. The bible is humanities first and worst attempt to understand the cosmos and our place in it. The fictional character of Jesus wouldn't have helped Nick.

Witness millions of people responding to his music to this very day. His soul's mission accomplished I would say. Personally is always challenging and known only to the subject themselves. Yet in terms of humankind he is most definitely a shooting star. I recall someone famous is supposed to have said "forgive them father they know not what they do" ....none can follow him!

I've been a fan of Ben and his music since 2015, initially enchanted not by Every Kinngdom, but the vulnerability and emotional load of I Forget Where We Were. As a fan, I have to admit to catching myself feeling slightly disappointed every time he recorded a new album, as there's a clear line between each one of them, both in lyrical themes and musical style (not to mention the issue of barely playing any of his previous music on the concerts). However, there's something magical about each of the records that makes you build strong mental associations with each of them, so now, even if I wasn't very fond of his third or fourth albums when they were initially released, I now find myself coming back to them with a strong feeling of nostalgia and awe. I'm glad Ben got to do what he loves without the "weight of the world on his shoulders", and I wish him all the best both as a fan and as a person

Found Nicks music after he had passed while I was recovering from an accident. I delved further into his life and when I found out about the amytriptan incident, which I had been prescribed for chronic pain, I immediately terminated using it, and every other medication as well. I owe him a lot for that in a sad way.

I keep hearing that there's no video of Nick but I saw a short clip of him performing. He started to play and sing then fumbled, apologised and continued. All the while sitting hunched over, his face covered by his hair. He looked in abject misery. I saw the clip a few years ago and have not been able to find it again.

Gabrielle once said that she didn't know what would happen to her Mother Molly without Rodney. I think both Molly and Nick had severe depression. I also think that Joe Boyd should have never allowed Nick to perform live without an ensemble that could also switch to guitars and drums.

Nah. A lot of artists that become very popular lose heart and the thing that got them there. I wouldnt even call him unpopular, he is definitely a name that many recognise. Bens integrity makes him stand out even more and adds to his persona, and colours his legacy as someone that never sold out. Legend.
