A good insight to the way people self adapt to their community living. "Independence" appears to be the driving factor, even when the scope of opportunity is limited, people in older age can and do have the motivation to be part of a contributing community. Given that the ageing population in the near future will rapidly increase there needs to be a strategic plan built around housing needs that includes communal support. The five examples highlighted show how older people can influence the society they are situated in - if there is more attention given to purpose built community housing - the benefits are boundless. We just need to get on with it and prioritise a pathway. However, the nation needs to address many social issues which are co-related: social deprivation, care within the community and the integration of services, are but just a few of the associated issues, let alone the Covid19 fallout and debt burden. The challenge can only be met by society as a whole - and unselfishly shared by us all. Brian Hobbs, Retirement village resident
