Love it! Occasionally I will click on your links when I inadvertently have my speed set to 2x. (When I listen to book reviews/informational videos etc, I do it at 2x to save time.) Usually I notice right away because your music sounds rushed/out of character at that speed, but this one sounds good either fast or slow. On the quicker tempo, it had a dance feel. Anyway, nice work. Hope you are staying cool!

@@musicroom7185 Maybe I should play some of my work backwards sometime 🤔... Yes, staying cool. We had so much rain from the hurricane last week that it's oversaturated my tomatoes, hope they come back... you get any of the storm in your area? We had some flooding from it (I'm in southeast Michigan)
@musicroom718522 күн бұрын
@@solitarymusician We are under a heat advisory today.."Feels like" temps above 110. We had maybe 3 inches in total over the course of several days, so was good for the garden. Had the first tomatoes of the season last night...as is always the case, the early ones are not too great, but it's still nice to get them rolling. My town is right on the Mississippi river, so if it is flooding up your way, we will eventually get it.

@@solitarymusician When it comes to teaching in public schools, I pretty much did it all at some point over 36 years. Taught at every level from Pre-K to College, instrumental, vocal. general music/music apprec. & did lots of piano lessons. In many situations I did K-12 schools so I did them all at once. Also did 13 years directing church choirs. What I can say (hopefully objectively) is that I am "good" at most areas of music education & performance, but "outstanding" at none. Does that make sense? It made me very employable and flexable in most situations, but in hindsight, I might have been better served to concentrate & excel in one area. I have been retired since 2020 & struggling to keep musically motivated. My fear as of late is that I will eventually stagnate to having little or no music in my life, as I already find myself playing & composing less.
@solitarymusician29 күн бұрын
@@musicroom7185 Very impressive. Your career is similar to my mom's. She was a concert pianist off and on, but her main jobs were teaching school. As you, from pre-K to college. General music, music appreciation, piano, vocal and taught privately. She was a church organist/choir director much of her life. She also worked for a time selling pianos. She also composed/arranged. She composed the Alma Mater of her high school. When she retired, I would say the last few years of her life she experienced what I would call major burnout. I think part of her situation was that she always had to be in "performance mode", largely in terms of the personality that goes along with that, public face etc... she played occasionally near the end, sometimes volunteering playing the piano at a local nursing home. She'd also play a Christmas party here and there. It was a quandary with her. On the one hand, she really missed being "in the scene" as it were, but on the other, she'd had enough.
@musicroom718529 күн бұрын
@@solitarymusician I relate to all of that SO much....😉my gig at the nursing home is every Wednesday afternoon, playing out of old readers digest music collections because they are from the right era & are spiral bound so the pages turn easily. (I love how appreciative the nursing home crowd is...plus, in my 60's I am still young to them). I play for community theater auditions because I sightread well...but I don't like being tied down for 8 weeks to do the entire show. I still play/practice at home quite a bit because I am not quite ready to be "done" with music...still hoping to "bounce back" ,,,anyway, thanks for asking & sharing 🙂

This is great! The town where I live has "Blues in the Park" every other Friday night throughout the summer and it is the only exposure to blues music that I have...so this excerpt absolutely makes me think of relaxing in a lawn chair, eating a big sloppy sandwich and keeping an eye out for mosquitoes! I sometimes forget how diverse your musical talents are!

@@musicroom7185 I'm originally from Memphis, Tennessee, the Delta Blues are big there, of course, so I sometimes draw from that influence as well as the barbecue. Yes, a pulled pork sandwich with coleslaw on a hot, summer day with flies all about... most definitely the soundtrack to that setting...I think I was subconsciously craving barbecue when I played this lol... have to travel back down south at some point to satisfy that; I do miss southern food lol

@@musicroom7185 The track I posted before this one, "Day Waves", was one I composed and recorded when I was living in Louisiana about 20 years ago. It was middle of the summer and so bloody hot that driving down the road, you could see that shimmering, mirage effect (or waves, thus 'Day Waves') in the distance. Being in a busy, urban city intensified the effect, putting you in a lethargic state. The tune sort of describes that.
