I realize this video is already 4 years old, but I'm hoping you still get notifications. Any idea how this will affect the factory airbags on an '03 Tintop? Wife's rig needs more defense against deer out here in the sticks, but I don't want to compromise the SRS in case of a vehicle collision.
@BarelyBuiltRight

Its hard to say. The sensor is still in place, so they should still deploy. However, the actual activation time may be microseconds different due to the bumper. Can't really say if its too much of a difference as I haven't set them off..

@@BarelyBuiltRight Thanks for getting back to me, I appreciate it. I'm going to go ahead with it, but as the stock frame horns are a little flimsy I think I'm going to box the frame horns 1/8" plate for a little ways and extend them, rather than putting the C channel extensions inside. I know the idea was no-weld, but I just think the stock frame needs to be beefier. I could just see that stamped steel tearing in an impact and the bumper and C-channel being just fine. Thanks for the fantastic idea and link!
@BarelyBuiltRight

@@NickLenarz for sure! Yeah you will be much better suited than mine with that plan. Don't reinforce toooo much as that will reduce the factory crumple zones in the frame rails. If they are too stiff they won't collapse correctly and the airbag sensor will be just a little too late, resulting in bags deploying just a little late. But a little reinforcement should be okay.

Looks great 👍 it's cool seeing guys thinking outside of the box finding very affordable alternative ways to make automotive products, you'll have haters on this because they think you have to fall in line and spend hundreds if not thousands of dollars on these products, back in the 1980s I used to use vinyl house siding to form ground effects for cars and guys would where I got the custom parts because they loved them and after I told them they just laughed and walked away. Why? Because I didn't pay through the ass for something? Thanks for the video

it would be way easier to uncouple the motor and disassemble on a table. my guess is a dingleberry hone, new bearings and seals. save the effort of rebuilding these carbs and just get some cheap ones online. fuel filter and pump. distributor will need contacts cleaned of replaced. IMO its a really cool simple motor that you can learn a lot from if you take it all apart and rebuild.

best thing you can do at this point is pull the engine and break it down. You may get lucky and get away with just honing the cylinder walls, they do not need to be perfect as 2 strokes are a little more forgiving. The rings are probably seized in the piston groves if this is the case let them soak in evaporust gently tapping them until they break free then remove them and clean the rings and groves until they are smooth. i believe these have needle bearings on the crank and rods so I would start looking for them now because if they are pitted they will fail really fast with really bad results. the corrosion you see on the exhaust is pretty typical of marine engines and as long as nothing feels too thinned out by the corrosion it will be fine.

Don't do this!!! Those plastic pieces of crap are gonna flap like your mother of 20mph, when you hit 70mph they are gonna rip off. If you are going to do something, do it right first time! Fibre glass or composite is a lot more ridged, alloy even more. Don't use self-fing tappers (that's the equivalent of using electrical tape) they will rust. Please please don't try anything in this video on your car, you will regret it!

With the truck being lower and low offset wheels with spacer, how is the suspension travel on it? Going over speed bumps/pot holes ect. does the top of tire touch the fender/bedside wheel housing?
@BarelyBuiltRight
@BarelyBuiltRight Ай бұрын
When I first put the wheels and flares on the rear wheels chewed the hell out of the flares, but rarely made contact with the bed. Once they ate the plastics they "settled out" but would still catch occasionally when I would bottom out.
