I am very surprised that you can fly inside a nature reserve. In Spain this would be cause for a very large fine. A few can be flown over at no less than 400 m (about 1,310 ft). I have always been surprised by the freedom of bushpilots in Canada (and USA).

Great to learn of this. Dad was a Sask Air Ambulance pilot, RCAF etc. Just shy of 17000 hours. I don't believe he ever did any float plane flying but I could be wrong. I know he used snowski's at times.

The problem with these cubs is they just fly. This entire video shows a pilot trying to land. This plane hate landing so it just soars. .... but he does eventually land.

It certainly can if you are not careful, never on a gusty day. No real flare, I fly it onto the ground as slowly as possible. North Star stalls at 25. Thanks for you comment.

Spent nearly every weekend for 6 summers camping on Beausoleil Island as a kid in the early/mid 90s. Haven't had a chance to re-visit in nearly 30 years so I really enjoy seeing the area from the air in your videos. Seeing a float plane takeoff between the islands one weekend back then sparked my interest in aviation. One day I'd like to visit the area by air, until then thanks for sharing your experiences.

May I suggest some explanation in the video on what's happening - eg. what's the take off speed, did he hit the truck, what are they discussing, are they in radio contact etc. Either by putting captions in the frame, or even better narrate it. And turn down the music - way down. 🙂

Hi Peter, thanks for your comments, and great suggestions. It's always nice to get some constructive feedback. We will be shooting another trailer takeoff this May and I will incorporate your suggestions. To answer your questions; the takeoff speed was 70 kts (normal takeoff for Cessna 180 is 55 kts, we can do this because the aircraft is positioned on the trailer with a much lower angle of attack than normal), although it may have looked like it, there was no chance of hitting the truck, we were discussing at what speed to lift off the trailer, I am in direct radio contact with the vehicle driver. Check out "Floatplane Trailer Takeoff - No Music for the version without music. Cheers.

@@flyingdundee43 Thanks. Really - 70 kts? It looked like half of that. Well, the music is okay as background filler, but low key unless you want to say something or drown something out with it. And perhaps better to turn it off or way down when relevant sound is at hand. I'll keep an eye out in May. 😊

Why only apply flaps at rotation speed?
@flyingdundee43
@flyingdundee43 3 ай бұрын
Hello Ricardo, good question. On a normal ground roll you can accelerate faster without flaps. However this is not necessary for a trailer takeoff. But for trailer takeoffs the aircraft is positioned with a nose down attitude because liftoff is at a higher than normal speed (about 10 knots higher) and you don’t want the aircraft to start to float before reaching this speed. If you have flaps on during the roll you have a greater risk of moving on the trailer before you are ready to takeoff. So flaps are pulled on at rotation. However I have learned they should be pulled on more slowly than in this video due to the weight of a 180. Hope this answers your question. Cheers from Canada.

@@flyingdundee43 That's good. I had flashbacks to learning to fly. In the midwest, we get used to flying with wind and lots of it. You'll have a gust one second that lifts you off the runway and then it goes away. I miss flying. Haven't flown in 15+ years.
