I got a baby betta as my first betta around February and honestly he's thriving. He's gotten bigger and his color has become a vibrant red, and he's not showing any signs of illness or depression. I think raising him is pretty fun but I can see why it's not the hest one for a beginner lol, I was probably just lucky

To add to your list, nerite snails. They're good at keeping the tank free of algae and in my experience of keeping bettas, they tend to ignore them. Another snail they tend to ignore are those little snails that often appear when you do a planted tank. 😆 They tend to breed like the proverbial fly though, so they can and will "kind of take over" your tank. 😅 Once you recognize what their eggs look like you can easily remove them from the sides of your tank, which helps keep the population down.

I have a 5 gallon tank. My betta recently passed away so i am redoing the tank before i get a new fish. But i think those tanks are garbage. I think people think because bettas are caight from puddles and ditches that they can live in small spaces. I would prefer my betta to thrive and flourish. Glad to see you back!

The sad part is that big stores like petco and pet smart sell WAYYY more of these crappy 1 gallon tanks over a standard sized rectangular tank and they cost so much more I wish people just made a nice 5 gallon with premade filters inside so inexperienced people could give their beta a good home

Froglets don't need to be fed when they still have a tail because they are absorbing their tail and all the nutrients come from that

It’s a shame. It’s a sleek design. Would look great if it was a 5 gallon cube. Also, I think you’re very beautiful. Your compassion for animals makes you even more of a catch (no pun intended)

I have neocaradina shrimp. Personally, 5 gallons is the smallest I would put them in. They need plants, a sponge filter and room to swim and breed.

you could prob get a nano filter, and get a species of dwarf shrimp. I.e. cherry shrimp, blue jellies, ghost shrimp. (STILL HIGHLY NOT RECCOMENDED JUST GET A REAL TANK PEOPLE, 5 GALLONS OR MORE MINIUNM!!!!

All that tank is good for is a couple of pet moss balls or maybe a cute mermaid ornament, or that Sponge Bob you got for the demo.

SO when I was 15 I had 7 pet betta fish, all in their own tank of course ..and they all were in small starter tanks. They all lived until they were 4 years old some 5 years old. But fast forward to just a few years ago, I bought a 5 gallon tank for my betta and he died within less than a year. And I watched all your videos on how to set up the tanks and stuff and I followed along to the best of my ability.. For age comparison I'm 40 now..

A big part of that is the breeding. The breeders that supplies stores like PetSmart and Petco have little-to-no care about maintaining good genes anymore.

I’ve noticed over the years where I buy my fish makes a big difference. I’ll have the same setups and notice certain stores they ALWAYS die around a year and other places I’ll have better luck with. A healthy betta will LOVE and use every bit of a large tank.
