If I wanted to make those front buttons functional, do you have any tips or other videos that I could watch? This is the most attractive Sophie dress I've seen and really want to make it but I also want it to be as easy to put on as possible 😂

EXCELLENT job of the copy, but the photo-shoot should not have head-phones round the neck. Laptop and so-on is good, but LUMPS around neck?? Really detracts from the look.

Amazing artestry and I'm sure a tremendous amount of work. I'm planning on Marie Anoinette & Cinderella's gowns but only in 1/6 scale for barbie thankfully. I'm sure the smaller scale sewing wil be a bit fiddly but challenging & fun. This era plus 30s & 50s are my favs. Take care, thanks for sharing video. /Rosemary

I don't think any natural fiber obsession can be unhealthy. I'm more of a wool person, but I totally understand. This dress is gorgeous, as are all your projects, and I love seeing your projects! Thank you for sharing the resources you use, its lovely to know about where to look for supplies/patterns/refrences.

Lovely, gorgeous! So modern yet 1898 at the same time. A creation flashed by with an entirely embroidered collar on a jacket. I want to see more detail. Maybe I could do something similar on my 5x7 embroidery machine.

Thank you so much for the lining and silk taffeta recommendations. Even recommendations on places to find beautiful trims! I don’t have much experience sewing, but I have made a few of my own costumes and corsets for renfaires. I really really want to attend the fetes galantes next year and I need to start making my mock ups right now! 😂 I’ve seen some other costumes, including yours and they DO NOT play around.. I need to be on my a-game.

Hello sewsrine, I love your videos you are talented! An inspiration. My love of costuming is in recreating my favorite movie costumes. I have an embroidery or applique question for you. In the finale of Meet Me in St. Louis the mother character( played by Mary Astor wears a dress heavily embroidered in a grape cluster motief. I figured out e grapes but can't figure out how the leaves are done and the grape vine. I would so live your opinion on how this dress was done. The movie takes plane in 1904. I am obsessed with this costume. Appreciate any opinions on this dress.

Thank you so much! I LOVE that gown so I had to look it up - apparently it’s all appliqué! Meaning it was probably lace or beads embroidered somewhere else, cut out and then sewn on. I linked the auction listing here: i0.wp.com/frockflicks.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/08/MeetMeinStLouis-1944-MrsSmith-lacegown2-display.jpg?ssl=1 Best of luck!!

@@Sewstine thank you so much! I do know that the dress lining is silk taffeta with the design being on two layers of silk Mull. Of course all over the appropriate undergarments. I did make a copy ,my version, of The tassel dress Judy Garland wears in the summer party square dance scene. Thank you for sharing your amazing talent!

I’m going to make a con survival kit housewife based on the tutorial by Willoughby & Rose, but incorporating some of your elements. I’m definitely adding a scissor pocket! I think I’m going to make one pocket my con wallet, with either a button loop or hidden Velcro. Another for bandaids, antiseptic wipes, pepto tabs, and other first aid items, plus a scissor pocket and needle book, with multiple colors of thread wound around a couple of bobbin cards. This sounds fun. Dragon Con isn’t until Labor Day weekend and I’m not making a new costume. So I should be able to do that AND my swag and seek.

If Lion King was made into a human led film, I think the hyenas would appear as over exaggerating stereotypical depictions of black people with really dark skin and the lions in human form would appear as non-stereotypical blacks with lighter skin than the hyenas in human form. Of course when Aladdin was made, most of the funny Middle-Eastern characters were portrayed as stereotypical of Middle-Eastern people while Aladdin and Jasmine were a minority of non-stereotypical Middle Eastern inhabitants.

I really like the linen naïve dresses they look so pretty and comfortable and adjustable because I seem to be randomly changing sizes again and hardly anything fits at the moment and pockets are always good to have and the I do declare dress just looks so pretty and absolutely perfect for the fall. I love dresses that have lots of extra fabric in the skirts so I can twirl properly when I’m feeling really happy.

I will always support Princess and the frog because although I’m a light skinned Hispanic she was the only one I related. She thought me to work hard and to prove people wrong when they say you can’t do something just because of how you look. And plus when she’s talking with her mom about her’s and her dad’s restaurant her mom said that even if her dad did get the restaurant he had love which tells me that yes goals are important but who’s gonna be there to support you when something happens ALSO ABOUT Navean you saying “ why doesn’t the only black Princess not have a black prince” like interracial couples aren’t real and labeling him as just a playboy prince who didn’t learn anything as if him ripping off his prince clothes as soon he landed in New Orleans didn’t happen. Like yes he is a playboy but didn’t he went to go to New Orleans to be free from his princely duties.

Hi! The bodice pattern was the lining of the Truly Victorian 1880s ball gown pattern and the skirt was the 1890s walking skirt. Best of luck!

Gorgeous, just stunning. Fascinating to be reminded that the couture sewing of the past wasn't as meticulous as perhaps our fantasies would have us believe. Also, I think your helpful bear deserves an historically accurate waistcoat.

Congratulations on 100K! The dress is incredible, and you blew my mind with the trick of ironing the satin piece on top of the bodice to create an impression of the upper edge to serve as a guideline. I’ll be tucking that away for future use!

Another term to use is interlining. Though this can often be used to mean adding warmth rather than stiffness/durability, it is not inaccurate.
