It makes me cringe when i see nice decent vehicles have a C channel rail fixed (glued or screwed) to the vehicle body work, most van life vans/campervans have roof rails/bars/roof rack, why not install onto the roof bars a roof tube like plumbers or electricians use and fix the C channel to that, added bonus, the roof tube gives somewhere to store stuff, long stuff that's awkward to store inside the van, tent poles etc.

Of course there are alternatives from a £1 million Earth roamer camper to a tent and a £500 car. You miss the point, In that you can have a brand new camper conversion in an Elgrand or Alphard for around the £18k mark and that includes the vehicle that come with between 250 & 289 bhp V6 , 4x4, luxury leather interior, twin powered doors and tailgate etc etc, with full service history 40-50k miles and are a better quality and reliability than the VW offering. There is also a 'scene' for if you into that sort of thing, and if you are a boy racer then the 280bhp versions make mincemeat of any VW van on the road. There is no logic in spending £80+k on a camper, its just daft, so daft in fact that Im mulling over some ideas on the back of decades campervaning experience for some 'must haves' to bring to market for the VW camper scene, as I want in on the action of liberating these types of their hard earned cash. Each to their own I guess.

The very last sentence sums up everything. People choose to spend their money how they wish. As crazy as the price may seem. We know you can spend less, but no matter what anyone says, people will still spend how they wish. They could choose a cheap car, as it does the same as an expensive one. A cheap house, because it still has the same function as a more expensive one. Food and drink, people prefer different brands. People spend big money on Apple products, but don’t the cheaper ones do the same? I am of course coming up with ridiculous statements here, because the value is found by the purchaser. I appreciate the Elgrand and the Allhard, but I wouldn’t buy one, nor several other models. I would however like a Marco Polo, but they are crazy money too. I couldn’t spend £80k on a camper and I do understand your point, but it’s your last line what means these vans will continue to sell AND retain strong sale values going forward.

@@StaycationLifestyle that’s a good price for Reimo. I couldn’t find it for that cheap but my van is also a LWB so that ups the price a little. I definitely would not go with a cheaper multirail or the Stitches and Steel one. This is nuts these prices, I've been campervaning for over 4 decades and I can say with some authority that you do not need to spend this kind of money to go campervaning. For example for £15-£18 k you can have a 2010 luxury spec Nissan Elgrand campervan with 250hp, 4x4, twin sliding electric doors, birds eye surround cameras, satnav, front and rear ac, etc etc, with about 40-50k miles and all you need for a fantastic camping trip. Then spend the £50 -60k you save by taking more time off work to go away in your van. Its not rocket science kids, don't be fooled by this nonsense.
@StaycationLifestyle
@StaycationLifestyle 3 күн бұрын
You’re right, but the same could be said about anything, it’s about choice. You could buy a Nissan Micra instead of an expensive car. I totally get your point, these prices have gone crazy. You don’t even need to spend £15k on an Elgrand though, you could get the same campervanning experience from a £5k van and save even more money though. People buy these for different reasons. Some enjoy the “Transporter Scene” the strong residuals, the aftermarket options. Have you seen the price of some of the new Mercedes Sprinter conversions? Getting towards nearly £200k

What isn’t mentioned is the amp hour capacity of the lithium batteries, or how many watts the solar panels can produce. Inverter hobs are 2.2kw, and a typical solar panel maybe 150 watts. Big big difference. Also what happens to thr warranty when these small converters go bust, when people with £100k+ to spend go for bigger camper vans from more established manufacturers?
@StaycationLifestyle
@StaycationLifestyle 4 күн бұрын
The batteries are spec’d by the customer and can be significantly larger than you normally see. The solar panels would be a minimum of 300w for that kind of setup, still relatively small though if you had the hob maxed out. Regarding the companies going bust, it’s hard to say, would be dependant on circumstances, what’s gone wrong etc. A few have gone bust in recent times, not sure what happened to warranty claims. Some also re setup, wonder if the honoured claims after “name change” 🤷🏻‍♂️

I mentioned this in a later video talking about the Bonfire. Smoke can be caused by a few things, the wood being too high so it doesn’t get the second burn (the second burn is what makes it practically smokeless), insufficient airflow (dirty fire pit) or in this case wet wood. If the wood isn’t completely dry, it even the second burn can burn the moisture off

We've looked at the Nugget plus, Westfalia Kelsey and now have settled on a 6m Fiat chassis campervan. We traded off the daily driver/ease of parking of the Nugget and Kelsey with the comfort, space and facilities of the larger Campervan. That should suit our travel plans for the next few seasons but there is always a compromise whatever you choose.

If some converters are up to NCC standard why don't they become registered as an approved converter? and I understand it's easier to get insurance for a fully approved camper.
@StaycationLifestyle
@StaycationLifestyle 9 күн бұрын
It’s expensive, for a few reasons. Crash testing of the chassis is costly and once approved it’s for that conversion/layout. A lot of converters like to create different designs and layouts, so if a customer makes a request, they can do it.

Does the NCC not set a standard to follow? I would not purchase a camper van unless it was NCC approved as I think resale value Will be better and insurance cheaper. Some private sellers look at dealer prices and try selling for the same, so you won't know how good the conversion is, such as insulation and wiring ect: and of course no warranty.

Our old 1972 T2 Devon camper had 1" square seat frames where the seat backs could be moved around for forward or rear facing with a table between them for passengers to sit at with no seat belts = no strength in an accident and no seatbelts meandt the forward facing passengers would hit the rear facing ones and both would flatten the seat frames before hitting the bulkhead ...And with the engine cover being the storage at head height at the rear everything would be headed forward at the same time ! ... And to think , everyone took the rotor arm govenor off and fitted a solid arm for more speed ?....

It's funny how different people pronounce things, the table in question is the Loc8, to me I find it funny when people refer to it as Loc(k)8 where i always call it Locate (lo K eight). This is proberly due to the area you either live in or come from. You also made some excellent points about the poled v air awnings Vango make excellent air beams and their prices represent the development of the technology involved, as they were one of the first if not the first to introduce airbeam tents into the country. Regarding poled awnings depending onthe type or style if they have a ridge pole going to the front of the awning to the side of the van at right angles it might be possible for the poles to damage the body work of the vehicle ( I have seen this with caravan awnings). any way as you rightly says different things suite different people. keep up these fascinating chats many thanks

Your point “ it depends on your use” is very well made. I personally have a sun canopy that slides on to my Remo rail In combination with a lodge tent ( 2m by 2m tent that looks like a big toilet tent) If I’m away for a few days I take the tent to store stuff for when I drive off for the day. If I’m only there for a night or two the tent stays at home and I just use the canopy. It works perfect for me and takes less than 30 mins to put up.
