I messaged this to someone recently and it's worth posting here, too: I have to just say that I personally can't wait to be back in Sifu Lam's back yard school again. Anyone who can travel to Southern California, Monterey Park should definitely do it. You will improve your Wing Chun immediately. Good people there. High skill. Smart. All my time spent there was time well spent. In the meantime, I just train what I learned and practice and try to learn more every day. Thank you to Sifu Lam and to his Students for the time and effort you put into sharing, both in-person and here. Much appreciated.

Another great Dummy video Sifu! I enjoy every one and learn so much. I can't wait to get to California to train and test! One question, I notice most of the Gwoh Sao techniques and Dummy techniques show a counter to your opponents second action, like the Correct Bong Sao here. Could you also go direct from Correct Bong Sao to Po Pai, before he punches again? I'm just thinking that I may not wait for his second punch in that situation. What are your thoughts Sifu?
@GaryLamWingChunKungFu2 күн бұрын
If you go into a Po Pai after a Correct Bong, you're opponent's second hand can hit you. You need to take an angle. That's why we use the Wrong Bong.

I see his point. People seem to sometimes concentrate more on checking pegs, with all the energy in the wrong direction. Whereas, the target is CENTER. Where we can effect his vital systems and soft spots. Simple, effective, WING CHUN/VINGTSUN. Sifu Lam was showing us how he collects two. One collecting two is the best.
How do you feel about Head Movement in Wing Chun? Is 0:49 a good idea or just to make demo simple?
@ljankokАй бұрын
When the intention is to drive forwards, as soon as there is no counter force the hand will drive forward to its intended destination. Don't focus on the hands, focus on hitting and only deflect when you feel pressure. Train this with your mind and body. At a certain level of training you will automatically hit anytime you don't feel pressure. And when you get one hand occupied, you have to keep relaxed and accept the pull or push while gently keeping the forward pressure and at the same time hit with the other hand which is free. This looks simple but it takes a great deal of mental and body practice to accomplish. The opponent is stiff, and not driving forward with his hand and his mind. He is lacking relaxation to experience sensitivity and he is lacking the mindset of driving force. When you are stiff you will miss all those golden nuggets of wing chun. You have shown all this nicely in this video.

@GaryLamWingChunKungFuАй бұрын
Nicely stated. Thank you. Here's a translation of what you wrote: "Many people comment that Wing Chun only relies on the hands, even though many people who haven't finished training have left college so they haven't had time to practice kicks. Because basically kicks can only be trained when they can connect the upper part with the lower part until they can find body balance. Just as explained by Shifu Gary Lam."

Yes sir. With the MUN SAO asking hand BONG and step to kick. That one collects both hands to the far outside and we can change there too. The kicks are all done with the heal. It’s like a gun shot when you learn that distance properly. Just the act of raising the foot to crash flat on the heal. The Jut da punch is always above the other hand, because the wooden dummy cannot move. Also, this Jut da in second section is actually one hand covers two. Your opponent's body often goes down. Which means that you need to punch a bit lower, otherwise you cannot hit your opponent.

I see what he means about that first PAK SET on set 3. He covers, he FUNG HAO and JUT and PUNCH. When it’s an arm in a fight though, the arm drops, and the punch is above, higher. On the dummy it looks like a chop high and punch low. But in reality, it’s a total system of control all the way around the arm. And the other thing was, if you’re going to PAK pak deep. Go for the weak point. Use cover on the wrist. Use PAK SAO deeper pinning the elbow/forearm. If I’m correct. Or else it makes it easy for the opponent to take the hand back and use it or his elbow.
