We have had the larger one for about 20yrs and I love it. I recently got a $10 bowl style one and don't like it nearly as well. the Grabbit makes all the pins lay parallel and I rarely stick my finger when picking up or dropping pins, the bowl style one has a weird magnetic field that makes the pins want to stick in every direction. I realized that if I add pins a few at a time they will sit head up along the rim which is doable, but I am planning on getting another Grabbit eventually. I may get the mini set since eventually I want one for each of the different pin types I use. Side note: I just got one of the straight 10 bobbin holders like the one shown and it is SO MUCH nicer than the little plastic containers I've had before. Perfect for a projects worth of bobbins in one place.

Needle up/needle down is one of the most helpful features. I had to “unlearn” using the hand wheel to move the needle up and down - it was such an old habit. The needle up/needle down feature ‘frees up’ the thread when I finish a seam. This means I can pull the seam out from under the presser foot without ‘fighting’ thread that’s still under some tension inside the machine. It also puts the needle in the ideal position for threading. I could go on and on about needle up/needle down, but it is truly one of the most underrated features on a sewing machine.

Hi All ... I have issues with my foot pedal sliding because I that horrible flat all-purpose carpeting in my apartment sewing room. I have managed to get the foot situated on a piece of 'good' shelving paper on a piece of silicone (cutting mat) ... but the silicone STILL slides along the carpet. Soooo ... I took one of my 3lb hand weights and put it in front of the foot and the foot wanders no more. My sewing machine table has a shelf that sits just a bit up from the floor ... the foot would slide to it and then my toes would suddenly be hitting the shelf and ... well ... I'm sure you all get the picture. The small hand weight is just wide enough to rest in front of the pedal. The silicone is awesome but in the sewing room dust and debris stick to it and the tackiness gets compromised. The weight helps keep it flat to the floor so less build up. The weight just works all around. Love to all ! Thank you, Sookie, for this awesome platform.

You can get those beads off the shower curtain rings with a pair of pliers. Flatten the little bump on each end of the beads that holds them. I did this a while back. Don't remember why, but it worked. 🤷‍♀️

My favorite: I got a 6-pack of cheap paintbrushes in the toy section at Family Dollar, which I use when turning things. They are smooth and have a fairly blunt end, and the various sizes mean that I always have just the right size. My other thing is empty facial tissue boxes to use as a mini-wastebasket right by my machine. Just toss it when it's full.

Just made one of these and so pleased how it came out but my seam on the lining seems a bit thick inside even though I used a thin material and trimmed it before turning the right way. It’s just at the opening where it doesn’t lie quite right. Any suggestions? Thank you

Many patterns come with more than one size printed on the same paper. I have used interfacing to trace the sizes I am planning to sew, thus saving the other sizes to use later for a different child or grandchild, or even the same child who has grown. I actually enjoy using the interface pieces more than I do the paper pattern pieces, and they fold up and last really well. When you were using the parchment paper, I thought that parchment paper would work very well for tracing patterns. I think I may try it. Thank you for all the ideas you share.

Just yesterday before watching this video I decided I needed a silverware tray to put tools, pins, etc in while sewing. Then I watched the video and my idea popped up. Now to find an extra tray in the house or to buy one. I have vision problems now at 83 so threading my machine needle is hard. I have found that if I put a small piece of white paper behind the eye of the needle it makes it easier for me to thread it.

I used to change my needles when they broke - and only when they broke. Thanks to you, I’ve learned that needles are one of the least expensive parts of sewing AND also one of the most important! Now, I change my needles regularly. And I’m more careful about choosing the right needle for the project.

Many machines come with a button foot. I am now planning to organize my whole button box. A great rainy-day project. Temu sells heat-erasable markers...fine point, multi colors, WITH REFILLS. I keep my heat tool close, using it to erase mistake, or remove marks on non-washables. They have become my favorite notion ever. Also - PILL BOTTLES. I take a lot of meds, hence many bottles every month. My fave is keeping my water-soluble thread separate and dry.
