don't buy this product. it's an overpriced piece of foam. the heating element has no thermostat. it can't be set to a temperature and hold that temp. you have to adjust it manually twice a day to come anywhere close to hatching requirements.

Junk!!!! Unless you have this over a runoff, you WILL flood your coop!!! There's absolutely nothing to keep the water from running. Unless you have 100 chickens that take turns drinking the water 24 hours a day, don't buy this product!

The heavy duty trap also goes by the name "The Duke." It has 2 problems. The trigger set mechanism is not sensitive enough. It will not trip the trap if you have a smart raccoon. The solution is to file down the notch on the trigger rod to make it more sensitive. The second problem is the trip plate that sits in the bottom of the trap. It sits too high, and most raccoons will not cross it or step on it so as to trigger the trap. Combined with the lack of a sensitive trigger means that the raccoon can reach across the top of the elevated trip plate and steal the bait. I had this happen on many occassions until I figured out a solution. The solution is to camouflage the entire bottom of the trap and the elevated trip plate with pine needles so that the coon cannot see the elevated trip plate and then avoid it. Once I started doing this, I started catching more raccoons (which I then relocated 25 miles from my home). The raccoons I have caught are tough and strong and have been able to pull the crisscrossed wires apart. I have reapaired this with hardware cloth wire all the way around. This prevents them from stealing bait by reaching in from the outside.

Only open the incubator to add water or remove chicks? What about turning the eggs 3 time a day? (If you do not have an automatic egg turner) You have to open it to do this, or does this incubator not require the turning of eggs?

No one asked this question, how do you keep the door open? I do mean without having to set the trigger on the trap again, because if I want to let the animal out, I don't want it to set off the trigger again! Other than that question, it's pretty simple!

I love these things. I have successfully caught 14 feral Pit Bulls, and had Animal Control come and take them away. I think one of my neighbors is a Meth Head and breeds them carelessly and let's them roam around unleashed.

Where exactly do you place the bait ?

Discouraging birds from triggering the Havahart 1083 Squirrel Trap OR stealing the Peanut Butter : I cut a wood scrap approx 3/4 " by 1.5 " to the exact width of the trap. (I cut the ends at a slight angle.) I do this so I can jam the wood into the trap in a way that it is just tight enough that it can not easily be removed by an animal prying it. I then screw 3 wood screws completely through the 3/4" width, equidistant across the 7" width of the wood scrap. Then I get 3 16.9 oz Pepsi plastic bottles and cut the end (with the bottle cap) off. (approx 1.25 ") Then I drill a small hole through the center of the 3 bottle caps and attach the caps to the 3 screws in the wood. Them I screw the ends of the Pepsi bottles into their caps that are secured to the wood. Then I place peanut butter inside the 3 plastic caps. and the ends. * * * * Then I take this assembly and place it backwards up against the far end of the trap. * * * * If you do this right, the birds wont be able to access the peanut butter because there is not enough room for their beaks to reach around and then inside the plastic bottle caps. I also cover the entire back of the trap and the back/top portion of the trap with an approx. 7" wide "L" shaped piece of sheet metal, so that the birds can't reach their head through the back and eat the peanut butter from the outside. I drill holes through the sheet metal and use electrical ties to secure it to the trap. The sheet metal on the top portion of the trap prevents the peanut butter from getting wet when it rains hard. Squirrels tend to find food via their sense of smell so they will find the peanut butter in the bottle caps, even when they can not see the PB. I also place a couple of peanuts within their shells inside with the peanut butter to further prevent the birds from getting all the PB. Most people have stopped using these old fashioned 2 door "balanced plate" traps because they are wayyyyy too tedious to bait and then set. The 1-door Havahart EZ-Set traps are much easier to work with. It's really annoying to me that the big box stores * * * * STILL * * * * stock these old fashioned traps, when the EZ-set traps are so much better. I live about 2 blocks from a Home Depot in Delaware County, PA, and I frequently look to see which squirrel trap they have in stock when I am shopping. Some people probably buy these old fashioned "balanced plate" traps at the Box stores because they have no knowledge that there is a much better Havahart trap available online. WRZ 2021-08-07

\When people buy Havahart traps, they should use a permanent black marker to write the model number(which is always on the box) somewhere on the trap. Then after you throw out the box and later decide to do a video, you will know the model number of the trap you are demonstrating and you can include that in the video name. They say run them between 35 and 50 lbs pressure. But definitely switch the valve out for normal black rubber seal style like from a bike or car tire. It’s just the valve core. At least once a week mine still need attention. They will be empty or over flowing. Then you have to turn off the water and take out the valve is the longer lasting fix and flush the line. They have a filter where it connects to water supply but apparently not fine enough. A better unit would be a toilet valve in a bucket with a couple cup waterers. My brother had this setup connected to a pvc pipe with 10 cups. And the only Maintance was shooting them with the garden hose occasionally. Overall these sound great but are still repeated work to keep them working properly.
