close fight with a lot of clinches and not so many clean punches landed.

Interesting to see Jack Dempsey in Max's corner.

I was in the Marine Corps, on a Merchant Marine ship, serving in Desert Storm when this fight took place. They had a big screen TV in the chow hall where all of us Marines were watching the fight. Serving my country while watching this fight was one of the greatest moments in my life. For just under two hours, this fight took all of our minds away from the war. Thank you both to these to great fighters.

I vaguely remember this exhibition. Incredible. This early stage Parkinson's Ali was sharp. If it wasn't for that thyroid medicine he still would have lost to Holmes and Berbick. But he wouldn't have been humiliated.

Incredible patience from Joe Louis. His left jab was consistent and powerful. He would square up to prepare for a combo and would start the combo from either left or right. Completely different footwork than jack Dempsey too, but very effective.

Ali should not have been allowed anywhere NEAR a boxing ring. The people around him, especially his manager Hurbert Muhammad, are partly responsible.

I rewatch this at least once a year. Master-class fight, of course, but maybe my favorite thing is . . . no ringside commentary. I wish all fights on KZfaq had a no-commentary option, where you can still hear the punches and the noise of the crowd.

Jackson was suitably menacing, and probably would have steamrolled 99% of junior-middleweights that night, but McCallum was brilliant, as usual: cool, controlled, granite chin, adaptive, slamming the body, then unleashing that first lightning 1-2, then those sustained body-head combinations--beautiful.

You have to wonder how badly Ali screwed himself up with the thryroid medication he was eating like peanuts before the Holmes fight that probably had more to do with how f-ed up he was when he fought Holmes .Actually fought Berbick after he fought Holmes and looked alot stronger .Was the Holmes fight a actual record payday for Ali?

The way Joe turned his hips with every punch from left to right is just great to watch ! Even today boxers have hard time throwing with power from both hands. Joe makes it look effortless. Even with today’s size advantage he would be a tough fighter. Way ahead of his time.

Love how McCallum went in for the kill but managed to stay composed and made his punches count. Mixed in some big body shots and remained heady enough to dodge Jackson's counters. Absolute thing of beauty.
