I have enough trains to do that but no permanent outdoor space I can do it. Once in 2013 I setup my temporary outdoor tracks with track layed on 6’ long 1” by 4” boards. I removed the track from the 072 curve sections and I’ve bought Menards 096 curves to replace them. I just have to cut the plywood. I have several videos from 2013 of trains on the panel tracks.

Can you list which products you use to convert and control it? I’ve got a dead MTH ps1 class A that just sits on the shelf and I want to get it running again. No sounds or anything fancy just yet, I just want it to go forward and reverse. I really want to just slap some rc electronics in the tender and wire it directly to the motor, but I haven’t the slightest idea what to buy and what’s compatible with other products, if that’s even an issue.

Good evening. I always try to respond to every comment. To answer your question, yes my rails are dead. I have converted my 3 rail engines to on board battery power with remote control. Best thing I have ever done in this hobby. No more cleaning track, rust is no longer a issue, (yes we still have to lube gears)

I've been looking to convert a conventional Lionel O Scale Pennsylvania flyer 0-8-0 locomotive to radio control, what would be the best way to go? I want to keep the smoke unit and lights operational but want to operate it on dead rail on my garden railroad I'm building.
@luckeyranchrailroadlrr1023
@luckeyranchrailroadlrr1023 11 ай бұрын
Well first identify the motor. If it's a pullmor you'll need to get a bridge rectifier to allow the motor to run on DC. After that you can install a battery and your choice of radio control. Your smoke unit is iffy. On order units like that I had to eliminate the smoke or custom install a new fan driven smoke. And I attach that directly to the battery power. (It will smoke as soon as you turn unit on) If you have a can motor then yay! Life is easier. Just install your choice of rc control and install battery. I hope this helps and makes sense. If you need more in depth details then simply ask away! I'm not a professional but I will give what knowledge I have to anyone that shared thos great hobby!

So the longest train I have pulled with 1 of my battery powered engines has been 22 ore cars and a caboose. But this wasn't the "heaviest" just longest. The heaviest train I've pulled was a 18 car train consisted of 2 engines converted to battery power pulling 9 husky stacks made by k-line, 6 mth premier auto racks, and 3 premier box cars full of duck eggs and one speaker. I could have pulled more but ran out of space on my main line.
