Hello dr Anthony, first of all I’d like to thank you for the detailed explanation you provide in your videos. I have a specific question, I’m about to graduate as an MD in Europe having completed my internship year and noticed that most speciality training programs require 2 years of experience as well as PR/ citizenship which I do not have, and I was wondering if there was such a thing as PGY2 in Australia that I could apply for? And what would be the requirements for that program? Thank you:)

Hello! Could you tell, please, which pathway should I use to legalize my doctor's degree if I have graduated as a specialist in the EU (Finland) and have a long work experience? Are AMC exams still mandatory even though in the UK, Ireland and NZ the EU-medical degree is accepted without extra exams? Thank you!

Hello Doctor Anthony , I have been following your channel since long time , actually I had a question I hope you would help me out , so basically I did my MD (undergraduate degree) in carribean islands where my 3rd and 4th year of MD involved hospital rotations in different departments like general med, general surgery, OBGYN, Pediatrics, Psychiatry etc but i didnt received any internship completion certificate as such. So if I give AMC 1 and 2 and pass these exams , what am i supposed to go for , do i need to apply for 1 year medical internship in australia or am i suppose to apply for RMO job ? the thing is that as my medical curriculum is similar to the US MD system and in the US MD it is well known that they dont have internship as such plus i was not able to find any video in youtube specifically regarding this issue so i hope you would help me out on this.

Hello Dr. Anthony, thank you so much for making a video on this topic. In my case, I'm a doctor with over 5 years of experience in my home country and I have not been in practice for about 1 year and 9 months (during which time I moved to the UK and completed my PLAB exams). I have now been back in practice in the UK for about 9 months. I've got a job offer in Austrailia and I plan to apply for AHPRA provisional registration upon completing 12 months of practice in the UK (Comp. Auth. Path - Cat A). In my scenario, have I met the recency of practice requirements according to the AHPRA guidelines? And what should be my answer to the question: How long have you been absent from practice? Appriciate your advise.

Hello! I am a medical student in Romania, an EU country, and I want to pursue my specialty training in Australia. In Romania, the medical school program lasts six years, with the last three years consisting of clinical rotations through all medical specialties. For instance, one month in emergency medicine, one month in general surgery, one month in pediatrics, and so on. Upon graduation, there is no required internship. My question is, once I have passed AMC1 and AMC2, can I start my specialty training in Australia directly without having completed an internship in my home country, since such an internship does not exist? Or do I need to work in Romania for a period before taking AMC1 and AMC2? In Romania, you can only work after graduation as a doctor in training, which means I would need to choose a specialty in order to work. However, this is not considered an internship but rather a doctor in training. What specialty would you recommend that would help me continue my training in Australia?

If you don't need to complete an internship in your country then you don't need to do one for Australia. You will need to complete 12 months experience under the Standard Pathway prior to being able to apply for specialist training. You also need PR for about 50% of the training programs.

Hi Dr Anthony, nice video-very informative! I'm an IMG and have already received a job offer in Australia. I'm planning to apply for provisional registration under the Competent Authority Pathway (Cat A). I'm about 2 months away from completing my 12 months in the UK. Currently, I'm preparing for degree verification with the AMC. Do I need to wait until I've completed the full 12 months before I can upload the documents to AHPRA and submit my application?

You don't need to wait to verify your degree. Its a verification of your medical degree. Not your postgraduate experience.

As I understand it you will still need to do the PLAB process to work in the UK, which will incorporate the MLA. If you do this and work for a year in the UK you will become eligible for competent authority here.

GP from Specialist pathway who is currently in UK has got Membership of the Royal College of General Practice (MRCGP) holding the Certificate of Completion of Training or similar which are AHPRA equivalent can be approved to work in non DPA MM1 area if they got a job offer from non DPA MM1 area? Also what is the fastest & cheapest/ easiest college to get the assessment for the above?
@CareerDoctor
@CareerDoctor 26 күн бұрын
You have to work in DPA areas for 10 years if your a GP SIMG. There are only 2 GP colleges in Australia. It's not like in India where there are lots of colleges doing specialty training. Assuming you have not worked rurally as a GP then your only option is the RACGP.

hi there mate. I’m going to graduate a UK GMC accredited medical school july 2025 (university of bristol). does this qualify me for the competent pathway? I was looking at applying for internship when I stumbled across this video. I mean this is a curious sense but I just talked to the internship office for WA and they said most intern positions dont get filled?! I would like to work in Brisbane Melbourne of Perth. I understand ud likely recommend me stay in UK for F1 PGY1 in the UK but please let me know your thoughts.

I don't know what the person you talked to in WA was taking at the time BUT THE MAJORITY OF INTERN POSTS in Australia do get filled. You need to do your F1 first. It's that simple. You might have some problems getting a job as a PGY2 but at PGY3 it won't be an issue.
