You come across as an energetic guy that believes in his product; with good reason. But you have got do a much better job on your videos demonstrating its value. The screen angle was awful and distracting throughout. Too much happened out of the view of your potential customers and the audience who will influence others. It’s all about networking you know. The camera looking over your shoulder showed you stropping and then you looking at the progress. Very little else. I hope you understand what I am trying to say. I also sincerely hope that you succeed in your venture. Don’t give up on all your hard work! Have someone help you set up the stage and watch your recording on some kind of monitor. Have someone who cares enough to be honestly objective and tell you the truth about it looks as you go. And if it is something you can’t be proud of, start over. That sounds harsh but it really is better than a video that makes you look bad. To wrap it up, I am 80 years old; I have seen a lot. I’m still working in my shop. I want to use your product. So hang in there! Don’t make the same mistakes that so many people cranking out lousy videos do. Most of them are pitiful. Spend more time time, effort and money on your videos. I noticed from your videos as well as others that use Gunny Juice, the strop is always on a table & the blade being stropped on top. But, one video i seen, forgot who, used the Gunny Juice on a strop attached to a blank & stropped in a TSPROF Kadet Pro. They were stropping in the same way you would sharpen a blade. Is this way recommended at all? I have yet to see you stropp this way. Also, since the strop is facing down towards a blade locked in a sharpening device, would you lose product/ diamonds while stropping? Thank you again for your videos....

You shouldn’t lose product. There’s nothing wrong with stropping with a TSPROF. I am a freehand sharpener by nature. I started with stone in hand sharpening. So I have a better feel for stripping holding the strop. I can feel when more or less pressure is needed. Sometimes one side needs more work than the other. I can feel that. Have a question. My knives seem to get better and better as I progress through the stones, but when I get into the higher grits 2K+ and strop I usually lose apex sharpness and I’m not sure if that is my technique or if the steel doesn’t like the higher grit. Maybe I’m using too much pressure. That has to be the case with stropping. Using high grade leather or bass wood with gunny juice. Lot of variables and I haven’t quite figured it out yet. I should probably do more testing between progressions too. double digits on a Bess is really good for my skill level. 70-90. Think I’ve gotten a 40-50 once or twice and that doesn’t always translate to hair whittling either. Getting better and still confused. Ha!

knife bros are dumb asf man. it blows my mind how much dumb shit knife bros believe. its worse than a cult. and if you're wondering, by sharpening the edge with the correct abrasive thats finer than the smallest carbides in a given steel you increase the edge's toughness by marginal amount. this is because the so called "teeth" as microscopic as they may be, if they are large enough based on the grain and carbide size in the steel create areas where fractures are more likely to form . this isn't some edc bro nonsense. it's empirical fact. So that is the benefit of a correctly done mirror edge. it's less likely to chip.

January is usually a very slow month. And December the factory closes most of the month. I am just getting some items I ordered at the beginning of December. Then we had a ton of orders come in at the end of December and January. Usually things are dead right now and they pick back up at the end of February or beginning of March until mid May. Then things die until Blade Show Atlanta. The summer slows down until mid August or early September. Generally September is my biggest month. The peak times are changing and becoming more random so I am trying to navigate the new trends. Unfortunately being a mom and pop show I can’t afford to sit on too much inventory at once. We’re continually restructuring things to be in a better position to be ready for the fluctuations in business. I have been hitting the automotive industry such as carwashes and detail shops to sell my Gunny Glow “The World’s First Smart Cleaner”. Here’s my website that covers product information and dealer list. It’s time to update the website and add dealers, but the ones one there usually order from me fairly regularly. Hopefully my labels are done before the weekend is out. Again I appreciate your support. As I restructure things I am slowly putting things in place to speed up the process and to stock more inventory

I was wondering if you could shed some light on mono vs poly diamond. The guy who makes stroppy stuff(and some others) claims that poly doesn't have the same fracturing characteristics(or the other benefits poly is supposed to have) when talking about submicron particle sizes and stropping-level pressures. I've read the study he uses to substantiate that claim, and some other studies by the same author, as well as others, and quite frankly I have no idea what the right conclusion is. One study showed quite a difference between poly and mono even at 1 micron size. The only thought I have is that polycrystalline should still have the benefit of having more cutting edges even without fracturing. Do you have any opinions on this matter? Ken Schwartz also mentioned in his blog that monocrystalline has its benefits as well(talking specifically about a stropping compound), but I can't really figure out what those would be. Even in the context of diamond plates, most people talk about mono lasting longer, but I've found several threads talking about poly cutting for longer and better.
@GunnysSharptalk
@GunnysSharptalk 6 ай бұрын
There are far more studies showing that poly has better finishing characteristics than mono crystalline diamonds, in metallographicpreparations. My products speak for themselves. Unlike some other companies, I have no need or desire to attack other companies. I will say that they obviously do not understand the science behind anything they’re doing. Just because they don’t understand the science doesn’t mean the science is incorrect. Diamond manufacturers explain this. So are the manufacturers incorrect? A certain maker of mono sprays and their followers are the only ones I know of saying mono is superior to poly. And 1 person trying to convince people of that. Honestly on hand strops there’s not enough pressure and heat that you will readily fracture either one. They will over time. Or using powered stropping or grinding. All the diamond manufacturers say pretty much the same thing. Mono crystalline diamonds can do a nice job on edges, but it’s not the same. It’s in no way superior. I have countless hours of my own testing. If I could make mono crystalline diamonds work as well as my poly formulas then I would change to mono. Mono is a third of the price poly are. I could have better profit margins using mono or half the concentration of my formula now. I would rather the highest quality product that I can provide. Here’s just one diamond manufacturer agreeing with me. www.superabrasivespowder.com/the-difference-between-polycrystalline-diamond-and-single-crystal.html

@@GunnysSharptalk Thank you for the information. I had some doubts about his reasoning already. He said specifically in his video that the grain size of pcd approaches that of the whole particle at smaller sizes like 1um, but as far as I know, polycrystalline diamond can have grain sizes in the single digit nm range, which is not at all close to 1um. I can only imagine that he read something about PCD used in machining which does have much larger grain sizes. I've tried to read a lot but there's only so much you can learn without being able to experiment yourself.
@GunnysSharptalk
@GunnysSharptalk 6 ай бұрын
@@entropy1454 we can take PCD down to 0.008 micron. The issue he has is the way the diamonds are made, cleaned and filtered. So without using our proprietary process of creating and suspending the diamonds 1 micron could become the lowest limit. That’s because without our proprietary deionization of the diamonds you have agglomeration. That’s where the diamonds stick or clump together. That causes the abrasive to grow. Sometimes as large as 30 micron. We can guarantee that our diamonds are agglomerate free. Even at 0.008 micron. Some people don’t like that they can’t duplicate my process so they try to debunk the science with empty theories and emotion. Try my product side by side with any product you choose. If my product doesn’t out perform any of them then I will buy my product back and pay for the product that you prefer. And I will pay for you to ship it to me. I am not calling out any particular company because that’s not my style. I’m willing to do that because I made the best diamond stropping compound on the market. If that ever changes then it’s worth the cost on my end. Because that tells me I need to work on improving the formula

Would be good to know what micron size suits what end purpose. Clearly the smaller the more refined, but to those on a budget, what is the best single size, or size progression for the money? Say for kitchen knives.

So you’re only looking for one micron size? I personally use the 0.5 micron most often as an all purpose. Most popular sizes are 6, 3, 1 and 0.5 micron. What’s the highest grit stone you’re using?

I’d like to know also. Im slowly broadening the number of stones I have, but currently I’m finishing anywhere between 600-1200 grit. Occasionally a little toothier but normally 6-12 for now.

@@jonathanbezjian4301then you can finish it off with a 6 micron. And if you have extra cash you can also get a 0.5 micron to polish it off.

@@pullingthestrings5233 hey I appreciate it! Funny enough, after I left that comment, I went and ordered some Gunny Juice and accidentally ordered the .5, then returned it and bought the 6 haha! But I’ll probably purchase the .5 again soon. Thanks again, I appreciate the input!

I’ve been using Gunny juice for about 6 months. Man have I ever seen an improvement over the green crap. I’ve never sharpened my Sebenza and it comes back razer sharp and mirror on the 3 and .25
