Hi Sir, new subscriber from Australia. I’ve been following another boating channel, “Tally Ho” and the level of craftsmanship was something to behold, very precise but unfortunately now that Tally Ho is at sea I’ve begun to miss the construction phase…… and if I’m not mistaken I’m sure I saw you on one episode explaining grain and best use of a login cutting, anyway, I’ve been looking for a channel to satisfy my curiosity and your channel popped up, I watched the first episode and looks like I’m with you for the duration as I love your narration, the content is ever changing and Halsey does an awesome job behind the camera and putting the episodes together. So thank-you for posting, I think this will be a very entertaining build. Best regards

That is a BEAUTIFUL piece of wood...wow! My old man swears by those Ryobi tools; send 'em an email, maybe they'll sponsor ya. Looking forward to seeing Orca come together. I might have to come see it myself someday as I'm only just outside New Bedford.

WHAT A GREAT BOAT…WOW, the over head video recording is most excellent too. She moves quickly, nice and light on the water, very little wake…Whewwww. She rows like a dream. She moves so well, wondering will she ever get sails? Good idea to secure your oars. What do you call that open strip you placed down both sides, to which you attach the oars? Thanks for sharing…from east Tennessee.

My experience with Bondo taught me to use a material that wasn't absorbent to mix on. The results were a bit better. I wonder if it would be better with Total Fair?

I worked at a marina here in Florida all through high school and my summer breaks and even my summers home from college for extra money..The marina had alot of old wooden plank sailboats so I've had my share of pounding cotton caulking in the seems of these old boats was taught by a Master boat builder and shipwright from Scotland..He told me it was the only thing he's ever done for a living his father his grandfather and his great grandfather were all Ship Wrights in the same place in Scotland until him and his mother moved to the US in 78!!!

Hey Lou amazing to see my friend and I like all the paint tips in the table saw fence tips I would highly recommend no long sleeves near the table saw you know in the past how those have been some horrific injuries and you know all the people watching this may not have heard those stories definitely no fabric bracelets necklaces anywhere near that saws or moving machines

Great job, but seems like you're not laying the pieces of wood at 45 degrees to start, then successive layers at 90 degrees to the previous layer??

Most of the boat yards I've been in require that pairs of poppet stands be chained together, when a boat is put up on the hard. I might skip that, if it was only going to be a day or three, and the weather forecasts look good, but if high winds came up, I'd really want the chains in place. And I'd want to make sure the boat isn't on ground that will get spongy if it rains. I might go as far as to trench around the boat, to make sure runoff doesn't erode the support.

Good day Sir, I am past 50 years of age and I find your videos fascinating, so I subscribed to your channel. I am considering either building a boat from scratch or purchase a kit to build. I am on a budget an desire a simple boat that can accommodate a outboard motor. I loved your boat on episode 37 "when a skiff comes together" If you have time to comment what is a good budget for a boat like that? thank you so much for your time!

So can anyone show me any proof at all that somebody did not just upload some B roll again to keep things going while Lou may still be out of commission? Not a single word about Orca in this video ...was this ahout 2 years abo maybe? He was out for a year, than uploads a shot video, never says a word about the year absence. It's just feels a bit off.

Its really disappointing that the build of Orca goes no further than 12 episodes! So miss something to follow from the shipwright and using large lumber! I had liked and substituted .

When I went to boatbuilding school all the older instructors modified the tools, usually removing all the safety features. This man is a national treasure.
