Surgical steel or surgical stainless steel is ss 440 . The basic stainless from which was develop the old faithful 440C which is far better. But good enough to abuse it and fix it whenever necessary. My 2¢

Love mine. Got two. One in black linen micarta, brass rivets, other in olive green canvas micarta with brass rivets. Mine are first production runs so sheaths are different (better in my opinion). Note: the tip on these blades are so pointy/stabby they are vulnerable, so they shouldn't be abused in that area. Really love these (which is how i got two..lol).

I've found that for a survival knife I like the kabar big brother it gives me a big blade that's light to carry on my belt and for me a axe becomes very important in the winter imho

Not a professional either. Get the skills: 1. I have used Heimlich 2. I have used CPR 3. You can read the Boy Scout First Aid book, take free first responder classes locally, youtube classes for free When I travel, by air, by car, I always have an Israeli bandage with blood stop and tourniquets with me. I have used blood stop on more than one occasion. One time I realized that I had more medical supplies than the three doctor satellite office to which I was assigned by an HMO. Believe me, having taken months to recover from a injury in the army, you can never have too much in medical supplies on hand.

Why are people on this thread so ignorant. You explain to me how effective anyone would be with 30 pounds of steel strapped to them “at one time” ??? Has YT gone dumb.

I would very much like to hear from the vet pilots or military historians on the presence of saw teeth on (US) “pilot survival knife’s”: Has there been a significant number of instances where pilots had to cut their way out of a cockpit (seems very, very unlikely)? If not, are the saw teeth, then, just a token attempt to make pilots feel better?

No, the curve is to be like a handgun for officers to lesson the learning curve. What keeps the knife in your hand is to hold it properly, which is not with your thumb on the top. To disarm a knife you bry off the thumb, you have done half the work for me. you also do not have the thumb up on a knife you are going to thrust with, heep the thumb wrapped around the handle letting the full length of the blade sink into what you are puncturing.

The classic 1970s, 1980s cold war alice gear is the best in my opinion, having a U.S. contract production number is made very well , nothing, nothing like that Chinese shity knock off gear garbage 🗑️ when shopping 🛒 look for that contract production number and your golden pony boy . Especially for camping 🏕️ paired with old school 1980s Coleman sleeping bag 👍 .

My father carried the Gerber mp600 on every single deployment after 1990 when he got out of the Navy. He has one that's seen land on at least 4 continents. Me and my two brothers all have been carrying one or something like it every day for close to three decades now. Not a beater but boy does it come in handy.

Great video; very informative. I used to be a scout sniper in a paratrooper regiment of the IDF (I enlisted in 1995), and I couldn't agree more with you regarding the fact that in the field, weight is always a problem. Thus, an infantryman should always see to it that he / she doesn't carry unnecessary, cumbersome weight. Back then, I carried an old K-Bar knife, that my uncle had given me (he kept it from his service days back in the late 1950's). That knife was not very sharp (to say the least), and at the time I had no professional means to sharpen it adequately, but it was sharp enough for whatever tasks we needed to do with it at the field. I dare say that I disliked the blades of some of the knives that you had shown here - mainly the ones that are serrated closer to the handle. From my own experience, I think that a serrated edge is good only for a short while after the knife comes out of the forge, but when it becomes dull it is a pain in the ass to sharpen it correctly - let alone in the field, when you have minimal equipment. So, I never choose a serrated edge if I have a choice. BTW, which one is you in that old photo with the three of you standing with all the equipment? Are you the taller one to the left, carrying the enormous backpack or rather the one in the middle? Anyhow, thanks for the video, and as another reviewer wrote here: Thank you for your service. Semper Fi Gal

05 July 2024 - First, the table cover should have been lighter in order to clearly see details of the knives. If you have reviewed the video, you would have seen that. Second, you tended to ramble as if you no outline to follow. Your video should have been several minutes shorter.
