American vintage sounds way better. Player is all treble with no low end. Doesn’t sound terrible, but no comparison to the American vintage.

You can pick up the Gibson pickups for $119 each and get closer with the Epiphone, but the resonance of the Gibson wood and the aura of the genuine Gibson branded item can't be matched. Excellent, detailed and meaningful comparison video. Nice job!

In an era where people listen to what passes for music on their phones and not even mid grade stereo equipment the Epiphone would only be considered less by a minute percentage of the population.

I would choose the Epiphone if it’s a 5% difference. I’m still a beginner so they both would sound the same if I play it LOL

There's something wrong with your guitar. I just went over to Ask Zak's Jazzmaster video and his sounds beautiful. Yours does not sound beautiful. And Bob Bogle's Jazzmaster in the Ventures was the most beautiful guitar sound ever.

I've got a Player I . I love it,2018,artic white lefty. I've also got a 1994M.I.M.Thatwas manufactured when the Mexican plant burned down. Supposedly the body and neck came from California and the guts from Asia. Ceramic pick-ups but it's hot. Fender bender.🤠

The sound difference in your examples was really obvious! Much preferred the Vintage II. I've been looking at the Player II Strats because I'm not really a Strat guy, but think it'd be nice for the occasional time a recording calls for it. Played one at the store the other day and it played decent. Not as good as my Am Pro II Tele, but also cheaper. Hearing your comparison, I'd probably have to swap pickups. Good video as always 👍

The thin, ice-picky quality of the Jazzmaster isn't due to the wider pickups so much as it is the tone pots, because while the Strat and Tele both use 250k pots the JM uses 1M pots which let in a lot of high treble. Swapping the stock pots for 250k pots would definitely go a long way towards taming the treble and bringing the sound closer to that of a Strat/Tele.

Idk what y'all are on but the difference in audio quality is really striking on the middle and neck pickup, even with cheap headphone you can really tell the set b is way more articulate and precise. I think the cv is a really good budget option and it's probably not worth upgrading except if you use lot of effects

This is the best comparison I've seen on Strats. This is great, awesome. I would like to ask, have you ever compared the Player II with Maple Neck as opposed to a Rosewood neck? Is there a difference in sound? Thank you for posting this.
@airtimedesign
@airtimedesign 7 күн бұрын
Thank you Angel for the comment. I have not compared the Player II rosewood to maple but I do have other maple guitars to compare to rosewood. The typical thing you'll hear is the rosewood sounds a bit darker and the maple has a little more spank to it. Personally I think it's more feel than sound. I think a maple neck feels slicker and faster. I think the Rosewood has more of a solid feel. I have guitars with both and I would not choose a guitar strickly on Rosewood or maple. It's a feature that I look for in certain guitars but it's not the biggest factor for me. Now I would never have a Les Paul with a maple neck!

@@airtimedesign Hey thank you! I play a lot of Classic rock, i.e., AC/DC, Beatles, Stones, 38 Special, Greenday, Sabbath, Zeppelin, Skynyrd, etc. What strat can you recommend to play these kinds of music? I love the sounds that you are getting out of the Strats. I have SGs, Les Paul Tribute, Teles. I could neve really bond with a Strat. I don't think I've played the right strat yet. Would you say I should get a Strat with the HSS Configuration? Sorry for the many questions.

The paint/finish on the American is a biug plus for me. I love the Nitro. The Polyurethane “armor” on most basses and guitars is not my fav, but not much one can do about it. I bought the Player and Player 2 basses because they are fine instruments for a fair price, but sure wish that they would have the Nitrocellulose lacquer finish. Thanks, fine video.

The american vintage II Is my dream guitar, since I love the 7.25 radius, but I think (since the Stratocaster I own are all from Mexico) that Fender with this player II raised the game. They are terrific and with the same amount of money for an Am Vint, I take home the Player II, a premium Fender valve amp and a set of 57-62 Fender custom shop pickup set if I don't like the voicing of the Player one. The transparent aged cherry with chambered mahogany body is in my list. Can't wait to buy it!!😍😍😍😍😍😍 Wonderful video!!❤️❤️❤️❤️

I like how you do the sound demos back to back so that i can clearly hear the difference of the guitars. I myself love fender jazzmaster and jaguar and have a few models of both! Personally, they gotta have the rhythm circuit. Thats what makes them a jazzmaster and jaguar.

I'm clearly a beginner in the Offset world. I'll have to try one with the rhythm circuit and see if it works for me. Glad you enjoyed the audio samples. I think it makes more sense to keep it clean for comparison. The last couple I just cranked the amp up to around 7 to get a little more gain.

The sound comparison is interesting. I play it back without the video and find myself hearing some interesting sounds that I really like from the Jazzmaster. It really starts to come alive with a little gain or overdrive. It doesn't need much but when it's pushed a bit it makes a big difference.

Re the strat, you said "this design allows more string vibrations to transfer directly to the body". That's not how solid-body electric guitars work. If it were, sustain would be very poor. Every measurement of real guitars over the last 30 years (including many strats) has shown bridge admittance to be very small, and that almost all vibrations remain in the strings. That's the opposite of an acoustic guitar, where vibrations must leave the strings in order to be heard; vibrations must remain in the strings in order to be heard (via the pickups) for a solid-body electric guitar. It's unfortunately just a common misconception of science-challenged famous players, guitar journalists, and guitar manufacturers that transfer of string vibrations to the body is both significant in magnitude, and a good thing. It's neither. Re the rocking bridge on the jazzmaster, it has no more intonation issues than the strat bridge/trem. You get a mix of intervals with trem use on both, a consequence of variable string stiffness and things like saddle height. Just never lubricate the string-saddle contact points on a rocking bridge. Most of the issues people have had with the bridge are a resulit of not understanding Leo Fender's clever design (it's all in the original patent). You just need to ensure high string downforce on the saddles.

I’ve wanted a Jazzmaster.since I first got a Fender catalog back in 1964. Never owned one, but I’ve played a few, and you’re right; the offset body is really comfortable to play. But this one you’re reviewing sounds really thin! They were originally designed to use heavy-gauge flatwound strings, and that might keep them from sounding so thin-although I don’t like flatwounds on anything else. I’m a Tele player mostly, although I do have a Strat too. I don’t think I’d use a Deluxe Reverb with that Jazzmaster-no midrange control, and that guitar needs some help in that department. I think I’ll look for what Fender calls an Offset Telecaster-a Jazzmaster shape with Tele bridge and pickups. I think they’re still offering that, maybe as a Squier.

Laurel board is the deal killer, sandy garbage - also the reported lack of intonation and set-up, weird stringing and bad tuners - non Rick octave string arrangement just a waste of money. And it doesn't sound that good - certainly not like a Jazzmaster. Save your money and get the real deal Rick for $2k . You will not play the 12 string but a few times EVER anyway so you might as well get something you can get your money back on because these Squiers are already $300 and change all over the web. Stay away. You've been warned. This doesn't apply to maple neck classic vibe Squiers because thhose are actually nice for recording. 🎸
