Based off the commercials, I figured out this was taped off an NBC affiliate in Jefferson County, Alabama during the 1992 post-primary general election season.

I put all that in the video description. May 25, 1992 on WVTM 13 in Birmingham, AL.

I really miss *this* Dennis Miller. This Dennis Miller's comedy was incredible. The vocabulary. The pop culture references. I wore out cassette copies of his rants. I laughed and learned a lot from listening to him in the 80s and 90s. I tried listening to/watching his post 9/11 material, and it just wasn't the same. I miss the guy who was poking fun at both sides of the political aisle and wasn't being a stan for just one. I miss the guy who I simply can't believe would have ever voted for Trump.

Watching this is bitter sweet. I think Jerry Seinfeld said it best when he commented...."That show will never exist again". I caught the play on words...."THAT" show. Leno is not Johnny. Conan is not Johnny. Fallon is not Johnny. Only Johnny is Johnny.

Jay Leno should've mentioned Johnny Carson

@Mikerojo1985 That wasn't Jay's decision. Helen Kushnick (Jay's agent at that time) made a bad call. NBC fired her in October 1992.

This new comer is timeless treasures. You mentioned Bob hope in the intro here I gotta clean up the cables for his director truck when my pastor owned in Glendale CA. I don't even like bob hope. Isn't he laid to rest at the San Fernando mission had a sport watch that had bob swinging a club round the dial

So sad that many many episodes of the 60s are gone forever, because NBC was so cheap they taped over episodes to save money

Like many of us in the comments, I grew up with Johnny Carson. I missed this finale as I was being a mom without TV at the time. Feeling a little nostalgic and sad. It was the end of an era really. Glad to have finally seen it! RIP Mr. Carson. Thanks for the memories.

@adenanthony5257 The reason David Letterman didn't get "The Tonight Show" is because he and NBC didn't get along. It is been confirmed by more than one of Dave's associates that he didn't like the NBC executives and didn't try very hard to maintain a cordial relationship with them. Dave reportedly would tell his secretary to say he wasn't in when NBC executives would pay him a visit. When the network would ask him to host events and charitable functions, Dave would say no. An executive asked for tickets for his son to come see a taping of "Late Night," and Letterman refused. Dave even mocked the network on the air, and that was basically a middle finger to the people who were deciding which guy should replace Johnny Carson at "The Tonight Show." Why would they have wanted to work with a guy like that for potentially decades? Dave shot himself in the foot.

My great grandmother (then 83 years old, now going on 99) was crying tears of pride when they made the announcement. I was just a 16 year old high school sophomore and I was so happy to have the family matriarch live to see the day that Obama became President. What a time to be living in, especially in Philadelphia PA in 2008
