This is my report! Still remember sitting in Micky’s bedroom in Cardiff with my tape recorder asking him to recreate his guitar solo for this Ol House. He was only playing his low budget Squirer Tele, but it didn’t make any difference. Funny thing was that he was very annoyed about this report and rang me at the BBC to tell me off. Don’t think we spoke again. I’ve still got outtakes from the interview somewhere Tom if you’re interested?
@tomgee001Ай бұрын
Hi Mart, I'd love to hear those outtakes! Can you contact me via Facebook? Btw, I sold that low budget Squirer Tele to Micky, back in the early 80s. He actually preferred playing it more that his Fender original. facebook.com/MickyGeeGuitarist Cheers mate

When playing chunka-chunka, he lays the middle finger flat between the index and third. The only other people I know who do that are the Vaughan Brothers. I can’t help it, I tuck my middle finger down, at the ready to actuate the barre chord. But these guys know something I don’t know.

Phenomenal - have only just come across this after the album was released on Spotify a couple of weeks back - had no idea it was filmed too!! This has made my week. They don't make 'em like this any more!! What an incredible bunch of musicians. I've never witnessed a Dave set with such power, intensity and pace - that keeps building and building throughout. A hits packed set with excellent homage's to Chuck and Carl, alongside Dave's own awesome contributions. The BEST line-up of the Dave Edmunds Band. Ridiculously good ❤

We recorded this in Cardiff in a friends bedroom on His 4 track reel to reel in 1973, a few years before the Rockfield album.

He alternates between the Keith Version and the Chuck version, which they famously clashed over in Hail Hail Rock and Roll. Chuck goes high to low: eee-eww-eee-eww-eee-ewww. Keith goes low to high: a-woo-a-woo-a-woo … G pays his respects to both.

One of the first band I seen was micky , eddie and congo playing the great escape in merthyr, 3 cardiff boys staring down the merthyr crowd and i love it. I joined a band that Eddie was in many years later, i dont think it was my playing but the smell of my rollups that got me in the band. Always love you eddie.

Tommy Riley on drums and Red Beans and Rice were a weekly group at the New Moon club Cardiff just straight rock and blues. 1971...it was an old warehouse in the old market area in Cardiff, you went up a long flight of wooden stairs to a room full of people dancing and drinking beer (and other things)... the bouncer on the top of the stairs party trick was throwing you down them! The best live music place back in the day. Not this place shown, ....it was much more rough and ready

This brings it all back. Pre-Christmas shows at The Venue, Victoria in '81 and '82 plus a few others in and around London. Remembering Mickey's face when Gary Moore was "Guesting" with the Dave Edmunds Band and giving some full metal widdles. Mickey didn't seem very impressed......almost looked bored. One time when Billy was standing in for Mickey, he miss-read the set list and swapped to the accoustic one song to soon. Dave didn't notice until the song started and turned to see what was wrong then turned back laughing. From supporting Tom Petty at Wembley to appearing with the Stray Cats in Hammersmith; I saw a lot of Dave Edmunds back in the day.......Hero! Mickey was one of those guitarists that confused my senses. My eyes could see it, my ears could hear it but my brain couldn't join the two together.
