I have a dream that will probably never be allowed... But one day I so would love to be able to do a facial reconstruction of her to see what she would have looked like. She's on my list of people I want to be able to do a reconstruction of (Grace O'Malley is another person I can only dream of reconstructing). A lot of hoops would have to be jumped through for both of them to happen though, but hey, a girl can dream!
@vreijs5 жыл бұрын
An excellent idea!!! How can it be done? Ideas?
@brinmoody5 жыл бұрын
@@vreijs the first step would be to locate as many fragments of her skull as possible. There are five parts I know of, which should, in theory, be enough to get a good enough structure to work off of. The next step would be to get permissions to either temporarily reassemble the pieces and take high resolution pictures of every angle of the skull as possible, or to take pictures of the fragments individually and then piece them together digitally. Then we'd have to start building up the face by mapping the different points, and go through with the process of digital reconstruction, which thankfully, is becoming easier and easier to do thanks to modern technology. That's in relation to simply her skull, and its easier said than done, as the five known parts of her skull are scattered across three countries... Ireland, Portugal, and Australia. If we were to do a full body reconstruction, it would be a lot more work, as we'd have to locate where exactly her body is (its most likely in Co. Down with Patrick and Columcille/Columba), then map out her height, figure out her diet (which can be figured out through tooth analysis and studying how her bones grew to see how good or poor her diet may have been which would then suggest how she would have been built...) either way, it would be a whole long process to accomplish, but its my dream to be able to see Brigid, face to face. She's one of the reasons I want to be an Archaeologist, and she, along with Grace O'Malley whom of which I also mentioned previously, are my greatest goals to pursue in my future career. Grace's reconstruction is also going to be a challenge, but for a different reason entirely... her body is completely sealed in a stone tomb, and to get to it physically would mean breaking the tomb open, something which hasn't been done since she was placed there. Alternatively, I wonder if a sort of x ray or other scanning technology could be of use there, to look through the stones without damaging them... ironically enough, Grace is buried at one of Brigid's abbey's on Clare Island in Clew Bay, Co. Mayo, connecting the two (the abbey is named for Brigid as well, being called "St. Brigid's Abbey).

@@brinmoody The locations (that I know of) of relics are here: www.google.com/maps/d/u/0/edit?mid=18b7RDP1c3X741kuzQ4za1UlnqAs Perhaps a 3D scanner could do the job in trying to piece together the bits? The two in Portugal should hopefully fit (although they might both come from other places, not sure: they are very secretive about it). There is also a small piece in Ireland (coming from Portugal). Removing the skull from its containers in Portugal might be difficult to achieve. The Irish piece would be relatively simple (if one could get permission).

A choir singing and a person clapping are easy sounds to notice. To demonstrate the theatre's acoustics someone should make a very faint sound like whisper or drop a coin at the center of the stage.

My birthday is march 3rd, I was born in 1988 on a full moon during a penumbral eclipse, that's actually what I was searching for when I found this video. This was on my 19th birthday and I remember it clearly. My birthdate 03/03/1988 falls on what is called the metionic cycle because a very bright Babylonian named Meton discovered a 19 year reoccurring pattern in eclipses and used it to predict them. I found this all out very randomly about eleven years ago at work when out of simple curiosity I googled "what happened 03031988" and it blew my mind

It's the acoustic situation in the reconstructed Wood Henge of Goseck, recorded inside the wooden circles. This observatory was originally built 5000 b.c. (sic!), reconstructed in 2005. Sorry for the really late reply. But, what is a year in the ages of this observatory... ;-)

Sorry, i lost track of this, and just ran across it by accident now. Max polarization is 90º from the sun direction. This video seems to be looking at the sun. Try doing just what is shown here, but with the dot on the stone facing 90º away. This would be in the opposite direction, down from the zenith by an angle that the sun is above the horizon. and again, Leif Karlsen's book is the best reference

Darkhorizon1066, your grandfather's comment that "the Irish would fiddle anything; what do you expect from people that hang upside down out of a window to kiss a stone," just goes to prove there hasn't been a lot of positive evolution going on in the DH1066 family in 100 years. It is one thing to question the authenticity of a monument or to question historical theory, but another to write blatantly disparaging remarks about a whole population. And your prejudices diminish the credibility of your argument.

Hello Silmaryllon, In someway I determined using a 3D model when the sun would shine in. So I did not care for the date, I let the simulated model speak. This happens to be near equinox (in the beginning I used a 'wrongly' directed North arrow, so I thought it was near solstice;-)... See also the link in the above description.

There are more academic analysis of the roofbox. It was open-ish when the excavation was done, but in front of the box was indeed sand (nobody had seen this box before the 1960s at the excavations). In the roofbox were a few quartz stones which seem to have been moved around (due to scratches seen). We don't know the exact location of roofbox and passage stones as these might have moved, but even taken that into account, I think the direction is an alignment (better than Stonehenge, IMHO)
@vreijs11 жыл бұрын
Please read the books to inform yourself. Don't only work with hear say. O'Kelly's archaeological book is quite good (his did the excavations), but there are other ones. And indeed the front was made as it is now, based on several experiments. If it is correct, perhaps (and IMHO one can remove the 'perhaps') not. But also that process of deduction is described well.

Remember nobody is saying the light hits the end of the chamber. at least I have never heard that or seen that! That is indeed not possible in present times, see all video and stills. The end of the chamber might have happened 5000 years ago (as I tried to simulate with this Moonlight [in 20061 and 2003]: the Moon can be in places were the Sun was 5000 years ago, next time is around 2020).
@vreijs11 жыл бұрын
Your reasoning is partly correct. There is indeed this difference, and that is why the Sun does not shone into the chamber at sunrise! But several minutes after it. If you calculate where the Sun would rise in Neolithic times, the Sun would be spot on at its rise...

Bought the book. ON page 77 it clearly states: "When the light form the rising or setting sun was lost in the fog [or below horizon], but the *zenith* was clear, the navigator could tell the exact position of the sun by using the sunstone, even though the sun itself was unsee."
