As someone who grew up listening to Aaron Smith in the 77's, it's really cool to listen to him talk about the Detroit years.

Minute 30 or so. Really grabbed me. I am no longer a believer. But I love his music so much. Along with Gene Eugene and Adam Again. They were un-afraid to address the darker issues within Christianity itself. I currently don’t think any human has figured out the life after death thing. And I am certain the Abrahamic religions have it just plain wrong. But if you seek goodness you will find it, if you seek purpose you will find it, if you seek truth you will find it. All the Bible gives you is judgement.

when the Perfect comes. prophecies, they will pass away; tongues, they will cease; knowledge, it will pass away. 1 Corinthians 13 (2thepoint) . For the law appoints men in their weakness as high priests, but the word of the oath, which came later than the law, appoints a Son who has been made perfect forever. Hebrews 7.

MICHAEL BEEN!! The Call was right up there with the Greatest bands from the eighties on! I can only believe that GOD in His SOVEREIGNTY, Caused or Allowed, the lack of success that they had. I am a fan (and former musician/songwriter) BUT most of their albums are "uneven" to my ears . Having said that, their albums and BEEN 'S solo album ALL have some INCREDIBLE songs on them. How could "EVERYWHERE I GO", I STILL BELIEVE" , LET THE DAY BEGIN", "YOU RUN", etc. Not have been Huge hits??? Bad record label promotion?? I don't know. It's sad...GOD BLESS YOU! 🙏

Well thank-you John J Thompson. I learnt much more about Michael than I did either touring Europe or recording 'Scene beyond dreams' with The Call in 1984. I experienced him as an extreamly complex man whose passions and struggles found their way into his excellent lyrics. This was sometimes at the cost of one-to-one communication which is the way of so many writers- Go Well Michael, joe

Here's to you, Michael Been and The Call! In 1986 I was skating one Sunday afternoon in L.A. with my radio headphones on, and the DJ mentioned The Call, saying they had opened for Simple Minds the night before. Then, he played "I Still Believe," and I was moved and impressed. I worked in a graphic design studio, and the owner also owned "The Palace" in Hollywood. The next day at work I told Denny, "You should book this band at The Palace. They're impressive." So, Denny did book them, and soon after they played The Palace which was full with about 1,200 people there. They performed a great show. After every song, there was much applause, and after each song and applause, Michael said, "Thank you very much. We appreciate it." He was a real and sincere person. They were just great as they performed all the songs on their recently-released album "Reconciled.". That band never received the full recognition they deserved.

Fantastic interview! Even the chat afterwards kept my attention, even though I had no intention of listening all the way thru (no offence lol). My observation, as an Amy fan, is that while she is known mostly for her light, upbeat material (Baby baby, Every heartbeat, Takes a little time, etc) those of us that feel especially connected to her are strongly drawn to those songs that have a certain melancholy...darkness, even. I'm thinking songs like: How can we see that far Faithless heart What about the love Breath of Heaven You're not alone The feeling I had Cry a river And then there are the super-nostalgic tunes, like If these walls could speak, Stay for awhile and Oh how the years go by. Honourable mentions to Out in the open, All right, Say once more (the entire Lead me on LP, really, lol). The thing all of these songs have in common is the incredible vulnerability. I also feel compelled to add that, as a gay Amy fan, I always had this feeling that she would never judge or look down upon someone like myself, even though I knew that to openly and explicitly voice any support for the gay community would have been somewhat problematic. Regardless, the way she spoke about creating a "welcome table," well, she achieved that, because if Amy exudes anything, it is a non judgemental air of openness. Having said all that, hearing her acknowledge her gay fanbase is a wonderful thing. P.S. Lead Me On is a fantastic stoner record 😜 And all the stoner friends I had in my youth would agree 🤣🤣🤣
