My former psychiatrist taught me this when I was having nightmares and was in the lowest place of my life. She said that when I wake up from a nightmare, write it down but change the ending. And then go back to bed. Change it to a good ending or whatever I want. And it worked!! :)

Ah! I’m so excited Marshal brought up Shepherds Purse! I live in Texas too and it’s one of my favorite plants to pop up in the fall/winter. My kids and I like to eat the little heart shaped pods, they have a lovely zesty peppery flavor. You could also associate the heart shape and taste with igniting passion.

There was a book awhile back, non-occult, that talked about spheres of influence. We each have a sphere of influence. Some spheres are larger for others, such as people with political power. While people like me pretty much just have what's immediately in front of me. Nothing wrong with that, but it brings a framework and calm. There are some things we can change--our free will. And there are other things I can't change. Like when there was the scare that Putin might launch nukes at America for our involvement with the Ukraine (lack of free will.) I sat at my desk and played video games, played with my dogs and chickens, and went on as usual. Was I afraid? A little. Death is scary. But I had no means within my sphere of influence to change any of that, should it have occurred. So, wasting time worrying would do little for me. In a sense, magick is the attempt to increase the size of our individual spheres of influence. That is why when many of us get together to perform a ritual in harmony with the same cause, tremendous things can happen. That's how I explain it. Hope that made sense.

I haven't seen many "ghosts" but I did have one experience where I saw a man walking in and out of a tree and then disappearing inside of the tree. I was a pre-teen at the time. Your meditation of going into a tree reminded me of that.

they were really into calendars in the south.. here in the north not at all :) but was it the people or the priests, that is my question. i've noticed in my nature practice that you can´t really choose the (spirit) animals at all.. this summer i wanted to see deer yet i saw snakes, a lot of snakes. from that experience i actually relate to the concept of each year being linked to a certain animal (year meaning the sun year, the summer that is). you could also think each day.. in the natural setting you do see a lot of animals.. just that it´s not the same days / animals in different years (it´s the fixed dates that make those kinds of systems seem off to me). it´s like accepting someone else´s correspondences (who does that, you should never do that).

This is a good observation leading to an important point about the relation between religion and culture: religion has a better chance of becoming canonized or at least "standardized" in complex, hierarchal societies with a formal priesthood. Examples would include Christian Rome, India, the Aztecs, and the Inca. Personal, individual experiences with the spiritual, on the other hand, are more highly valued in smaller, egalitarian societies such as among the American Great Plains and the Amazon rainforest. I agree, there seems to have been an ongoing tension between these two value systems in the Mexican / Mesoamerican case studies, but the smaller traditions generally survived better after the Conquest because they were not as linked to the political system as the earlier priesthoods were.

I am nerding out sorry Ivy for 50 comments on this video but talking about dogs and the afterlife too 28:13 . That is one core reason why Dante in the 2017 Disney + Pixar animated film, Coco was part of the journey with Miquel when he went to the Land of the Dead. The Dante was a Xoloitzcuintle breed of dog and was important not only for the Aztecs but also for the Maya and the Toltec. They would sacrificed and buried with their owners and be guides to the underworld. It is often overlooked in the movie, Coco that Dante is a spirit guide for Miquel to make sure that he is protected and looked after (plus his name is a play on Dante of Dante's Inferno)
@EyeoftheSerpentКүн бұрын
I agree, and this is why I thought Dante was the most originally indigenous part of the Underworld scenes!

And just a note too on how to know the difference between the Aztecs and the Maya too is that Mayan civilization was primarily city-states (think of Athens, Sparta, Crete, Thrace and etc for a comparison to other historic city states). And with the Aztecs, they were an empire not city states. When you look at Mayan civilization you are not looking at an empire you are looking at city states that have networks throughout each major cities. Thus, is why there is influence from the Olmecs to the Mayans to the Aztecs.

It's also worth nothing that the Maya did not have a unified, cultural identity. They did not see themselves the same as their neighbouring Mayan city-states or populations. Each one had its own identity and traditions. Whereas the Aztecs, by virtue of having an empire, did have a cohesive view of who they were as a people.

I clicked on this video so fast I got a whiplash. I am always in love with Mesoamerican culture, history, religion and everything about it (along with everything else).
