I too started using tracing paper in my art work at school. I am now 60, back then tracing paper was regularly part of art and craft lessons, including sewing, pottery, painting and drawing. It’s great for designing and visualising ideas.😊

What a wonderful idea. Thank you for sharing. I have been using photo sleeves, 4 x 6 cards that I gathered from all kinds of discarded cards, or cut used cards into that size and write on one side and draw and do art work on the other side. I have been doing that for 22 months now, and I am just looking for a new way to do art and journal daily. I love your format.

Just a tip…..you can refill your empty disposable Pigma Micron/Fineliner pens if the nibs are still good… just pull the nib with tweezers and syringe in Indian/Bombay ink… which is both cheap AND waterproof!

1)Write down a list of things you like including artists to reference from and colour palettes you like. 2)Bring 1 or multiple from this list an ipad pen, drawing pen and paper, pencil eraser and receipts, small set of paint and mini sketchbook/ used containers. 3) Set timings whenever you have the mood even if 10-60 mins or when home fluid art,ink splots, random colours you can paint from. 4) look around you for 3-5 things to draw/ colours to you or pick one thing you want to improve on

Jackie, thank you so much for sharing your expertise. I just came across your channel tonight and have watched your first two videos for beginners. Do you have a video that shows how you mix your colors before you begin painting? Do you make a puddle of clean water on your palette and add paint or what? I know this is probably a no-brainer question but, I want to do it correctly. Thank you so much for your help.
@JackieHernandezWatercolor8 күн бұрын
This video on color mixing might help: How to Mix Any Color from a Limited Watercolor Palette kzfaq.info/get/bejne/qc1grNF_3LnIZ6M.html I don’t start with a puddle of water. I start with my moistened paints, grab some pigment, then slowly mix in water until I get the right consistency/value.

Thank you again, i feel i have fallen into the continual tutorial trap. They are great and helpful but eventually you have to be brave and move to the next step. I am still trying to decide on my style. I love realistic art but i also love impressionisim. I find i am not really suited to realistic art, i get too frustrated and perhaps expect too much but it still keeps drawing me in. Perhaps i just need to perservere 🤔🤔 or perhaps i need to let it go. Dont know yet but i really appreciate all your advice.
@JackieHernandezWatercolor8 күн бұрын
I think you should stay open and curious and see where that takes you. Maybe in time you can eliminate the parts that are frustrating or find a different process you enjoy more. You don’t have to have it all figured out. Just keep going!

Jackie!! How serendipitous that I saw your video today! I have been struggling with this very issue. I've been second guessing myself, wondering if it was worth all the effort. Your video showed me that when I go off script, in a manner of speaking, I am trying to stylized my painting. It's NOT a failure because I haven't reproduced the reference exactly. Thank you for sharing this information with us!! 🙌💜
@JackieHernandezWatercolor8 күн бұрын
You got this! It’s a mindset shift. When you go off script it might take a few attempts to achieve the style you want, just like when you try anything new. It sounds like you’re on the right track!

I don't like tracing I just feel learning to draw free hand is the art work. Otherwise tracing and colouring we learned in kindergarten.
@JackieHernandezWatercolor9 күн бұрын
That’s good for you. For me, the watercolor painting is the art, the drawing is just a guideline to start with. You can’t even see the drawing in my finished work. So, no it’s not “kindergarten” to use tracing.
