I never served in the military. I got my PTSD from a savage home life. My hat is off and my heart goes out to anyone who has served, and double for those with combat time. My brother served in Germany, during the Cold War. He went through an event which proved the Cold War was not entirely Cold after all. Thing happened nobody ever heard about..

The frightening part, for them, is that they lied about both the size of their fleet and it's capabilities.

"realizing *why* humans are the default for a half elf" Because younger races fuck the best? I mean, if you clock in at around a hundred years, and only a tiny window of that even has you sexually active, then...yeah.

Have you ever paused and thought about exactly what your brain and body are doing when you casually toss a ball back and forth? Your eyes feeding 3d spacial video in real-time and a part of your brain processing that to track direction and speed. Another part of your brain predicts where the ball will be and when. A part of your brain deals with how your body is situated. Where your limbs are, state of muscles, balance, motion you may be in. This comes from thousands of nerves in every muscle, your skin, ears, eye data as well. Your brain has to coordinate your body to get to where the ball will at the same time it gets there. It has to get your hands around it as it moves past them and then absorb that velocity to retain control. Throwing it is just as complex, involving tracking estimating distance, force, pre-planning where to send the ball to match the target motion. And most amazingly... if you practice enough, all of this can be offloaded to the more automated parts of the brain leaving only actual decision making in the conscious part. Everything else becomes trained responses. The raw compute amd predictive power of the brain as well as the ability to coordinate hundreds of muscles like that so rapidly in difficult to express. Even just simply walking is incredibly complex.

Funniest part of that was that they essentially threatened to throw a rock at us. We've been throwing rocks since before our civilizations even started. We then progressed to throwing spears, launching projectiles with bowstrings, blasting pellets with gunpowder and then tearing holes through the sound barrier with railguns. Like, alien-dude -- If Walter White's the one who knocks, Humanity is the the one that Rocks!

All the overcharged skills in the world won't mean jack if you don't have the judgement to use them appropriately. Nicodemus really can't take that lesson to heart. Despite the interface, it ain't a game. Experience is discipline, not an arbitrary number.

This definitely sounds like a D&D style fantasy world. Especially since humans are considered average and can do a lot of the things that many other races are famous for doing. The interesting thing is that he didn't mention "common", which is the universal language in most D&D style settings, and which was the spoken language of the last human empire.
