I have just managed to get a hold of a REDARC BCDC 1250 DC-DC battery charger for my 4WD. I already have a REDARC isolator in the 4WD when I got it but wanted to add the charger to the system. The 4WD already has a dual battery system in it but I would like to add a deep cycle battery in the rear. The question I need to ask is would mounting the charger at the front of the 4WD be ok with the dual battery system and also the deep cycle battery I want to install in the rear of the 4WD ?
@TheMusingGreg
@TheMusingGreg 6 күн бұрын
So to confirm, the existing dual battery system will be unchanged, while the BCDC is going to be mounted at the front of the vehicle and its output connect to the new battery at the rear? And that new rear battery isn't going to be connected to the original two in any way (other than sharing an earth)? If that's the case I can't see a problem with it, just make sure the wiring to the rear battery is thick enough as 50A is a lot of current. I'm not sure what purpose the 3rd battery serves but I assume you've got your reasons. I just wasn't sure if your new battery was going to be run in parallel with one of the two existing batteries, in which case the answer is a bit more complicated.

@TheMusingGreg
@TheMusingGreg 10 күн бұрын
Thanks very much for your kind donation! From my experience I would say no, as the catch can didn't stop the build-up. It did reduce it a little, however it was also very dry and harder to remove; and the dry soot without the lubricating blowby oil could potentially be more abrasive on the engine (no evidence, just my thinking). I would suggest get the manifold removed and cleaned every 100,000kms or so, possibly with using something like liqui moly at each service to slow the build-up, but as shown in my various reviews it doesn't clean it completely. Hope this helps, let me know if you have any other questions!

I suppose one must ask how Australian litigation law works? Are there any anti-SLAPP laws in place? "Strategic Litigation Against Public Participation" or "Strategic Lawsuits Against Public Participation" are something that most U.S. states have laws against, but not all. Businesses would file lawsuits, not caring whether winning was possible, just to tie up the victim's time and finances defending against it, as an intimidation and silencing move.
@TheMusingGreg
@TheMusingGreg 15 күн бұрын
It appears only the Australian Capital Territory (ACT) has anti-SLAPP laws in place, but this case is being pursued in the State of Queensland which appears to have none. So they could be doing that; although if that was the strategy the amount of negative publicity would suggest it's backfired spectacularly on them.

Pls help. I have this charger in a duel battery system with an Anderson plug out near the tow bar. CAN I just plug solar into that Anderson plug and leep my battery topped up? If so do i need the solar regulated?
@TheMusingGreg
@TheMusingGreg 15 күн бұрын
It depends if that Anderson plug is connected 1) straight to one of the batteries, or 2) to the solar input of the Redarc charger, or 3) to the output of the Redarc charger. Anderson plugs near the tow bar are usually designed as a 12v OUTPUT to a caravan, so I doubt it's option 2 (but if it is then yes you could connect a solar panel straight into that connector with no regulator). If it's option 1, yes you could connect a solar panel but you would definitely need to run it through a solar regulator to bring the voltage down, otherwise you'll fry your battery and vehicle electrics. If it's option 3, then no you wouldn't be able to connect a solar panel to it, however there would probably be a separate solar input to the Redarc unit somewhere which you need to locate, and then you can plug a panel straight into that. If you have a multimeter, switch it to Volts and measure the battery voltage on each battery with the engine turned off. Then measure the voltage onto the two terminals of the Anderson plug and see if it matches either of the first two readings. If it does, chances are the Anderson plug is connected directly to that battery in which case it's option 1. That's about the best I can do from what you've told me but let me know if you have any more questions and I'll do my best to help

He is using a LITHIUM battery in a car as a replacement for a LEAD ACID starter battery. Car alternators push 14.4 volts all the time. While lead acid loves this, it utterly destroys lithium. You cannot put a lithium battery into a car in place of lead acid unless you also have some kind of appropriate charge control that manages lithium safely and economically. I know some modern cars that have heated seats and such, and are already using deep cycle lead acid, but I do not know if the technology is in place to manage the alternator charge to lithium, so red flags go up and I wonder if that comes into play with this review. I would have to watch it. I do believe the manufacturer is responsible for educating the consumer to employ these batteries properly.
@TheMusingGreg
@TheMusingGreg 18 күн бұрын
As a general principle you may be right, but I believe DCS stated that these batteries were suitable for under bonnet use. As such, under bonnet batteries would have to have controls built in to handle that sort of voltage and current. If they didn't, then it comes back to the manufacturer providing wrong information about what the batteries can really do.
@OWK000
@OWK000 18 күн бұрын
@@TheMusingGreg I agree. Doing a little research though, it seems using lithium as a starter battery is even more problematic than even I had thought. Apparently it is hard on the battery as well as the alternator and the flow of power for the operating internal combustion engine. There may be some alterations possible, but it is pretty much considered a "not worth it, do at your own risk" thing to do. It is advised to keep your lithium battery more or less isolated from the lead acid starter battery.

There's something quite wrong (with the AU law) with a creator being responsible for random comments from the Internet. Really do hope he wins the case - I don't think DCS has a foot to stand on.

Yeah it depends on what they're complaining about. Everything I've seen so far indicates that it's the review he posted that's at issue, as opposed to comments others have made regarding that review. The original review has commented turned off at the moment

Manifold gets clogged because of egr system usually. Oil also promote that even faster.

Yep I think you're completely right on that one, it's the combination of the two that makes the worst impact.

Gday champ, my nt diesel pajero has, what I thought is a lot of blow by ( fumes & presure) coming from the oil filler when the caps off, but my mrchanic son said it's pretty normal & the timing chain is right there, near the opening & it's spinning & moving air quickly???
@TheMusingGreg

Yeah it sounds to be pretty normal from what most people are saying. You're right the timing chain is just forward of the oil filler, although that would more circulate air rather than blow it out. But either way it seems to be normal.

For what it’s worth , I had an experience with this mob under their previous na e so I’m glad that people are speaking their minds. All power to Stephan for fighting for the truth. We are all behind you.

Yes i think the whole youtube community will be watching this very closely. I find DCS's action in commencibg legal proceedings reprehensible and hope the backlash teaches them a lesson - financially!

Cheers Allan, yes I think many will be very interested in how this pans out, hopefully in favour of free speech! It will be interesting to see if DCS ends up regretting this approach, I guess time will tell.

This has struck a nerve with many people. DCS have pissed lots of people off. They deserve the backlash they’ll get.

Yes Mike I think a lot of people find their response a bit misplaced, and if all is as it seems (which it may not be) I suspect your assessment will be pretty right!

DCS have shot themselves in the foot - almost 2 million viewers have seen this over a number of channels.
