Congrats on the 1k! I haven’t made man memories yet because I’ve only been smoking a pipe for a month or so. But, I can tell you my experience with the community. I bought an estate pipe off eBay that had been refurbed (Savinelli 614 Full Bent Billiard) I asked the seller a million questions. He obviously figured out quickly I was new. When my package arrived he included and extra pipe, and 6 baggies of different tobaccos to try that were his favorite, small plastic pipe stand, some bite guards and a hand written letter. I realize for the most part, the process of smoking the pipe is generally a solitary pastime, however, there is definitely a brotherhood on some level. I thoughtfulness that seems to run in this thread of people. As a matter of coincidence, I had bought a tin of eight state burley from this year, loved it so much I ordered 4 more, and am dropping him a can in the mail tomorrow morning. He had not heard of it and lucky for me he put all his return info on the box he shipped to me with my first (and second) pipe 👍🏼

I picked up 6 tins when it came out based on a few recommendations and was pretty excited to try it, so I found my best broken in pipe and tried it. It was a pretty strong miss in my opinion. The oriental gave it a flavor I was unprepared for and found it rather off putting. I finished the bowl and found the deepest darkest part of my seller and that’s where it’ll stay. Maybe in 50 years the oriental will mature and lose the funk.

Sorry I’m late. Been catching up on videos now! Enjoyed the smoke with you. My pipe smoking memory and journey started with my father. He was a pipe smoker and it was always a wonderful smell and has always been a comforting feeling smelling the tobacco. I would crawl up in his lap and watch Star Trek while he smoked his pipe. So now as I it here watching your video I’m smoking one of his pipes. While I’m not smoking one of his codger blends like velvet, I am smoking some EMP. Cheers to you sir. Have a great day!

@@amanrelaxes Unfortunately most of his pipes I couldn’t save and smoke them. He smoked them to oblivion lol but the one I could save was a 4 dot ruff root. It’s nice to smoke and have those conversations through the tobacco we didn’t get to have as he was gone way too young. I keep the others but cherish the one I can smoke.

Congrats on 1,000! I like smoking strong blends, and feel I have a pretty solid tolerance. The most strong probably being Irish Flake, Nightcap on an empty stomach after working out 😂, or the Gawith Ropes! One of my favorite pipe smoking memories was the first time I tried Escudo. I had only smoked English and aromatic blends at the time and was just blown away by the aroma and flavors of that blend. That is for sure the moment I got hooked! Big fan of Brian and the podcast, I have lots of great memories listening to him and the Country Squire!

Up front, I live in Scotland so don’t qualify for the giveaway but happy to share anyways. I’m new to pipe smoking so my memory is one of my grandfather. He was I think what you would call a utility smoker. He only had a couple of pipes and with one exception only smoked Condor. In fact he kept all his ‘pipe stuff’ in a small plastic bin that sat between his armchair and the fireside. Nothing fancy. However, and this is my memory, at Christmas he always received a tin of Balkan Sobranie as a present. Even though it was the same thing every year he was genuinely delighted to get it and would sit happily with a good malt in one hand and his Christmas smoke in the other. Such a simple and genuine pleasure.

Glad to hear another dad expressing the joys of tossing your kid up in the air at the pool! Good memories. One of my best memories of pipe smoking is back when I purchased my first pipe at Iwan Ries shop in Chicago. I was totally overwhelmed by the choices and had no idea what I was doing. But it smelled so good in there! They recommended Frog Morton Cellar and then was able to experience the pleasure of smelling that unique aroma of cracking my first FM tin later (but then proceeding to have no idea what a tamper was for!) Thanks to the YTPC community for all the helpful tips and reviews like yours since that day 8 years ago!

Thanks for sharing! My first legit tin WAS the aforementioned Frog Morton on the Bayou. My buddy Steve (who was well into his seventies) recommended it right after I bought my first pipe, so that's what I always had on hand. He ended up buying my a 100-gram tin as a gift before he died, and that was the tin I mentioned in the video. RIP Steve.

Congratulations on your 1,000 subs. A great pipe memory for me was when doing a through hike in the Smoky Mountains. It was the 4th day of a 6 day trip. It was a difficult hike and it was hot. Congrats on 1k subs! We were smoking a shop blend aromatic (cherry cavendish maybe?) from our closest tobacconist about 50 miles away. Simple pleasures and poignant memories.

Hey there! My favorite tobacco smoking memory comes from my first visit to Boswell’s pipe and tobacco. A couple friends and I took a trip because I was getting into pipe smoking. I wanted to get my first briar. I met Mr. Boswell and chatted with him about his craft and he helped me choose a pipe. His shops have smoking lounges. My friends and I walked into the lounge to try our new pipes and were welcomed by all the regulars. We hung out for about 2hrs just chatting and enjoying Boswell blends. It’s a really cool place and everyone is incredibly friendly both staff and customers. One of the guys was from where I currently live (a few hours away) so I told him about all the changes here. Just an awesome day centered around pipe and tobacco shopping and having a nice bowl with a bunch of new friends.

Some really strong stuff: Mac Baren HH Rustica, and pretty much any rope-based tobacco. Would LOVE to see you try HH Rustica. For the entry: my best memory was when I first started pipe smoking and I came to realize just how relaxing it was for me. It was the only thing that slowed me down, shut my mind off, and just enjoy myself and my pipe. I was never able to do that before pipe smoking. It was quite an emotional discovery for me. A close second was inheriting my late grandfather's favorite pipe and it still smelling like the aromatic blend he used to smoke all the time. I cherish that piece more than anything I own, tobacco related or otherwise. ❤
