Ever notice how John holds his right hand up and over the fretboard and doesn't curl his left hand fingers very much, almost keeping them straight at times? that's because when he was young he learned to play the piano. It has been often said that he plays bass like a piano, and this li'l video spotlights that style very well.

Very few bassists changed rock! Paul McCartney and The Ox are two of the few! Paul simply because he sang and that brought the bassist to the front of the stage. The Ox? Well, I don’t think my explanation can outdo this video about how he changed the roll of the bassist!!

His hand movements were very much exaggerated. There are bassists who can play traditional bass riffs better. What made him great is that he wasn't technically a bassist at all. He was a guitarist who happened to use a bass. He played a bass as if it were a lead instrument, and his riffs were designed to not just be in the background like bass riffs, but to act as a counter and compliment to Pete Townsend's guitar.

@@jaydemo5792 dude he's all over the place most of the time when he plays his notes. His timing is terrible. Haven't you ever learned anything about rhythm? You probably never actually rehearsed with the drummer for any period of time. Entwistle has always done some really cool bass licks but it's timing is terrible. It's like listening to Robert plant. Great lyrics great melodies but it's timing is notoriously terrible and even admits it! So let's say interesting is Robert plant on base that's the best comment I can give you about him. No I take that back actually he's a better singer than Robert plant.
