I've been using my Can Vac for 30-plus years, and it's been nothing but fantastic. But in the last month it started making a "howling" sound. I took it apart, thinking it might just need a bearing replaced, but I can't figure out how to get any deeper into the motor to find the bearing(s). The howling noise seems to be some sort of resonance coming from the perimeter of the widest part of the motor housing. Any tips or suggestions on what to do next?
@Blackheartvacs
@Blackheartvacs 4 күн бұрын
I'd guess from what you're describing that it's the front motor bearing. I did do a demonstration of a motor rebuild so these videos may be helpful to you. kzfaq.info/get/bejne/oa2CrZSI3rnDoZs.htmlsi=0b3dJ_8K1nt2ioMQ kzfaq.info/get/bejne/i9VihZl9u77aimQ.html Just be sure that when you install new bearing you keep the pressure on the center ring so you don't damage the bearing track

Thank you for the video. Just got one of these used with a year worth of paper bags and I got hepa bags on the way. My reason for getting it is because I like the way it looked and I wanted to look at it's design. But ya after seeing this video and after the few uses I got with it I am already drawing up plans to improve mine. I am a guy who likes to tinker with machines.

What modifications do you have in mind? A better bellows system?
@mrbeep8096
@mrbeep8096 9 күн бұрын
@@Blackheartvacs Well to start you mentioned that it has poor seal between the bellows and the tube running up to the bag. So at this point I would replace the seal with something better and if possible replace the bellows as well with better bellows. Now second you mentioned some people drill holes into the base plate to allow air to bleed in. I was thinking of doing this or maybe rigging up my own basic height adjustment. Now I haven't taken mine apart yet since I got it. Mostly because I want to use up the paper bags I have still before hand. I am using it more than often to make sure that happens as soon as possible and I am still learning how to 3D print and 3D model which is where I plan on getting height adjustment parts from. These are the planned modifications atm.

Is it just me or this vacuum just way too loud? It’s so ear piercing loud, I have one from my grandma. It doesn’t seem to do a good job anymore, bag isn’t really all that full. But I don’t want to get rid of it cause it’s such a vintage gem now. Sometimes it smells like something’s burning, any advice?
@Blackheartvacs
@Blackheartvacs Ай бұрын
Hmm i typically associate a burning smell with a belt needing replacement. Does it vibrate excessively when it use? There's always the possibility of a broken fan. They were loud machines when working properly but a broken fan would throw it off balance resulting in both more noise and vibration.

the vacuum attachment universal 3rd party kit you can get on amazon/ebay ,etc...comes with 12 foot hose, 2 wands and 4 tools...You can pop the wand out....and connect the hose to the vacuum (with or without an adapter) and just clean all over the place without moving the vacuum.. that's what I do...I ignore the on board tools.. I got that kit like 6 years ago.. I think it was like $39...and still use it. I couldn't imagine vacuuming without it... I have older (mid 80's) Philips P74 Electronic and it also has the same style motor what is in your GM80. All I can say about it is "over engineered" It has very complex exhaust channeling going around the bag compartment like a spiral and whole channel walls are coated with foam. Exhaust air comes out from top of the bag compartment. Bag full indicator "sensor" is metal flap floating in the exhaust air channel. So it only measures airflow, not suction. All I can hear is air flowing through the vacuum. Sounds like nothing else. So no wonder yours also had few design "quirks".
