I appreciate how tolerant you are of opposing views. So if I may disagree with your description of "eclectic neighborhoods"... run down & shabby would be more accurate for most neighborhoods here. I have never lived anywhere with less architectural appeal. The recent KVAL poll showed 86% of people do not feel safe in downtown Eugene. As for "liking nice things to look at while driving", that may be true in Bend or Corvallis, but Eugene specializes in graffiti, run down strip malls, and armies of homeless pushing shopping carts around. You make excellent videos, thank you for considering a different view.

I do think architectural appeal is subjective. I much prefer "shabby" Eugene to the cookie cutter nature of new construction Portland Metro. While there may be graffiti, some I like. Suspish for example is a great fun identifier of Eugene, in my opinion. And much of the street art in Eugene is incredible murals done by talented artists. And yes, what I love about Eugene, others may hate. Nothing I can do about that. I'm glad you like the videos and appreciate your opinion, because I am sure it helps other people see all sides to the story!

I'm originally from Dallas Texas and then lived in Albuquerque New Mexico for the past 13 years. Moved to Eugene back in November after visiting a couple times. My wife and I wanted a change of scenery and smaller city than even Albuquerque. We've been very happy here and enjoy how nice everyone has been. My favorite thing to do is take my camera and walk around the downtown area for some street photography.

We just toured the Eugene area looking for a new home. When we made a loop through Springfield we saw so many Trump signs and other hate propaganda. If we do ever purchase there, we're not going to be anywhere near the 'Trump Trash' neighborhood.

I agree with all of the positives except that I would also add that the location is really ideal being a couple of hours from the ocean, the mountains, Bend, and Portland. It's really ideal being so centrally located. I would also say that the weather is nice because even though winter is drizzly, it is mostly very mild and you can still get outside if dressed appropriately. I disagree with most of the negatives though (except allergies-I've never had them until I moved here.) The road system really isn't that complicated and you can get most anywhere in the Eugene/Springfield area in 15-20 minutes. I will agree that the cost of living is high for some people but cheaper than a lot of other west coast cities. Really the main negative is homelessness and drug abuse. People here act like it's a normal part of many cities, but it is so much worse than almost any other city I've been to for this size of an area. It's really out of control and I feel like there's this down play of how problematic it is calling it "camping." It really is the main negative for me here and may end up causing us to move away some day which is unfortunate because we really love it here otherwise

Moved to Eugene last year. I was shocked by the drugs, crime and homelessness. I’ve never seen anything like it after living in Oklahoma, Colorado, and California. Agree with the pros though! I would add great access to organic local produce, awesome farmers markets and strong focus on health and high quality food.

Yeah… it’s really sad and I wish we could do something to help. But it just really doesn’t feel safe. I watched someone steal a bike at 9am at the doctor with my toddler. We would love to make Oregon a permanent home. But Eugene really just doesn’t feel like the place to raise a family. We just bought a house in Springfield though and hope it’s better there… wish I had connected with you as a realtor! Great videos.

Comfortable summers? I must strongly disagree...blazing hot 95 degree days are the norm here, not to mention all the smoky air from nearby forest fires that we get frequently. As for drivers being "too courteous"... I read a magazine article that ranked Eugene #1 in the nation in road rage frequency. The "Beltline" is a super dangerous highway with the most aggressive drivers I have ever encountered anywhere in the U.S.
@MovingtoEugeneOregon
@MovingtoEugeneOregon 22 күн бұрын
Interesting. Yes, I would agree we get about a week of intense smoke now. This is mentioned in another video, but I would still say our summers are significantly more moderate than many places in the US. And that is interesting that is your experience with drivers. I feel like drivers were so much more aggressive in Arizona.

They burned fields in the 60's. I grew up in Eugene as well. Didn't have fire season until the climate crazy's started getting involved. I never saw so many homeless at Costco in my life. Ferry Street Bridge is another area to stay away from. Santa Clara area is a trouble spot for High School Students attending North Eugene High School. Gimple Hill area is where we lived, nice farms and quiet. Fern Ridge Lake has some good housing, my youngest sister lives at Fern Ridge Estates. Homeless are spreading out to forest areas, be aware. You can no longer pump your own gas in Oregon, it's a shame. Springfield is the pits, literally. The area near Winston Churchill High School (my school) is another area to stay away from.

I'm surprised about your views on the city. I'm wondering if living up Gimpl hill and "coming in to town" has left you with only a small snapshot of the city. Climate crazies? You mean people concerned about the environment and are trying to point out climate change? The climate is changing and it has nothing to do with certain people's views. Also, you can pump your own gas and have been able to for awhile now. I'm surprised you're not aware of that. Homeless at costco? I almost never see homeless there. In fact most of the coburg rd/ Gilliam area i rarely see a homeless person. This is coming from someone who's grown up here, lives in the coburg rd area and works around Hwy99. Eugene and Springfield has its issues and some parts have gotten worse over the years bur I've see areas improve. I don't think your view of the city is really representative or reality.

Hi Hannah, I enjoy your videos! I was wondering, do most of the 1950s era Craftsman Bungalows still have old lead paint in them, or have they all been through lead paint remediation already? The Jefferson Westside neighborhood looks so beautiful!
@MovingtoEugeneOregon
@MovingtoEugeneOregon 2 ай бұрын
Well I own one of them and mine still had lead paint (built in 1930). I would guess most of them still have some lead paint under many layers of new paint. Ones with new windows and siding are less likely, as during that time and in that area lead paint was mostly found in exterior and trim paint. Also, I am so glad you enjoy them. Thank you for watching!
