Seems like a lot of this, including the Prewitt campground are closed.

Been there, done that :-) First time I was there must have been some 15 years ago. Last year, I slept over there in my car, after hiking up the dunes at dusk. It was a cool experience. And one more reason to be there at night: It is one of the darkest places in the US. No light, no nothing! The only tiny bit of light you can "see" on the distance comes from LV and LA. Stars were so bright that night, after the moon went down, you can hardly imagine! No chance this time, I will just hit the south of DV in a week, but there are cool places, too, like the Ibex Mines ;-)

I can explain the vortices in 5 words. Bullshit snake oil tourist trap. Sedona is an overcrowded tourist trap. Great town to ride straight through on the way to places with way less humans

Why didn’t you show the trees and vegetation in the vortexes? The twisting is truly amazing and a very physical indicator you are in the right place.

Hey man! I was just wondering - is the drive out to the dunes still worth it even if you don't intend to climb the dunes? The reason I ask is, say I was to go when it's too hot to hike like sometime in summer. Would you just recommend skipping out on the dunes until it's cooler then?
@christianbeckmann50753 ай бұрын
Depends... I don't know what kind of places you do like. The road from the beginning to the main visitor center is 126 miles. A really big part of it is unpaved. So, you will need some time. I never ever would just go the "normal" route, as I totally like it. But people are different! The road through Eureka Valley is ~10 miles away from the dunes. As it's a pretty bad gravel road, you need another hour back and forth. And you don't need to fully hike the dunes. The first part is pretty flat and it's fun to walk up a bit. Bushes stop and it's just sand then. Shoes are ok, barefoot is cooler :-) So, if you like remote places, I'd recommend going there, even in hotter times. And it's "cooler" than Death Valley itself. Badwater was at ~45°C, but Eureka just at ~35°C the same day.

I'm glad that I can visit this place when the time is right. New subscriber to your channel. Thank you for sharing these tips. Once people realize that they need to be respectful of places like these, the visits will be more enjoyable, and not unplanned! The rural communities need to be respected! There is a reason why people moved out there! Sometime the cities can really suck! Take good care, and thank you!

Nice video although I'm the guy who hates to see JuPlaya publicized....it's sweet as is. Just wanted to note that the reason to pick up the little stuff is that the little stuff builds up sand and can form dunes over time. I've seen somebody hit an unexpected dune at high speed and it'll really mess you up. The playa is great as a flat clean slate. Keeping it clean keeps it flat.
