My wife today said the refrain "I remember it well" and I remembered Hermione and Maurice singing that song from my youth. I have not heard it in over 50 years, But I remember it well.

As musicals go, Gigi was not exactly ... well, I sat through it in '79, watching it on TV. But this particular scene keeps me watching it over and over again. You can play ti to all generations.

The late Walter Becker (from Steely Dan) was co-writer of this tune, along with Larry Klein and Peyroux.

This scene is from the 1958 Gigi not the 1951 An American in Paris which Maurice Chevalier and Hermione Gingold did not star in!

Pure gold! Two old lovers reminiscing about their love affair when they were young. The actor and actress were giants in the golden age of movies. They left us this precious musical gift.

Sharing memories this day (3/21/2024) at BERMUDA DAYDREAMIN' [At some future date] HE: Do you remember back in June of '24 … that place Bev took us. The one with the beautiful white recliners …. SHE: With the turquoise pillows! Same color as the sea ... HE: And that evening we walked down the beach to the very end. No one there but us. And so we . . . SHE: That was another beach. But nearby! And yes ... I remember it well. HE: And you wore white? SHE: No, I wore blue. Am I getting old? HE: Oh no … not you! ---- You know me. I live my life in song lyrics. Thinking of “the most perfect song in all the world” as someone at KZfaq described this. Hermione & Maurice and their show-stopper from GIGI. A kindred spirit wrote (4 years ago - with the largest number of 'thumbs-up') "I have known my spouse for 45 years now. And I find myself not clearly remembering all the dates and details of our courtship. But as this song so eloquently demonstrates, it's the feeling of love that really counts in a relationship. And that is what I remember very well.” Thanks for sharing Tiziana Fato. Celebrated elsewhere this day (3/21/2024) search " Great Melody, Great Lyric, Great Rendition, Songwriting Workshop, Harmony Central " kzfaq.info/get/bejne/fbeogJijr5PZmY0.html

The lighting! To match the 'setting sun' the whites begin slowly turning orange, imperceptably as he sings the bridge, "How often I've thought of that Friday . . . " Someone may have won a 'technical' Oscar for that. Or should have! I can't stop coming back to this share by Tisiana Fato which just turned 400K views since its posting "12 years ago."

It brings tears to my eyes everytime I heart it. Knew a couple once. One of them had alzheimer´s disead and they had situations like that all the time. It´s a shame life doesn´t end in a beautiful fade in black but becomes hazy and confusing for some.

I love this. The characters were once in love, but that has passed...but they're still deeply fond of one another. He looks back on their time with tenderness, and she affectionately teases him before making it clear she feels the same way. Might they fall in love again? Probably not, but anything is possible. And they both play it so well, they're really believable as former lovers who may not be IN love anymore but certainly have a different love for each other now.

Lo stesso Di Giacomo in un'altra sua composizione (Era de maggio) afferma che in tale mese (maggio, appunto) le ciliegie cadevano "a schiocche a schiocche". Una poesia non è un testo di agraria o frutticoltura.

It's a gorgeous song and two greats doing it. Interestingly enough this was filmed twice. Once on location, and again in the studio because it was felt that the location version it didn't quite work. It's obviously on a set here, and watching the film the jump from a scene on the beach, to an artificial environment is quite jarring, but it works all the same. A friend of mine worked with Ms. Gingold on A Little Night Music in London, and he adored her. She was by all accounts a piece of work!
