Unfortunately you left out vital foundational information! In order to understand Who Jesus Christ is it is vital to understand that the Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ is the Messiah that the Prophets throughout the Old Testament referred to! The Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ is the Creator of mankind, the One and only True God, the Truine God, GOD THE FATHER, GOD THE SON, GOD THE HOLY SPIRIT. The New Testament is the fulfilment of the Old Testament, hence by leaving out the Old Testament what you are teaching has no foundational history...

I really appreciate this video being online. From what I gather I think it was filmed in 2004 and uploaded in 2015. I just finished this video and I am looking forward to seeing the other videos in the series. I have been looking into orthodox theology for over a year now, and have learned many things, I really appreciate this presentation giving a historical overview of the church. The more I learn about orthodox Christianity, The more I like it. I have a close friend who is a deacon and is studying and training to become an orthodox Christian priest. I'm going to send him this link, I think he will appreciate this presentation. Thank you, God Bless.

I am also converted from protestantism to orthodoxy online, I was praying since long for the one true apostolic church once I thought it is roman catholic but I didn't stay there even for few weeks however I found orthodox church where the teaching of the church pierced my heart with profound love and wisdom. Never skip a single day to listen to early church elders or monks wisdom. So blessed to be an orthodoxy☦️❤️

Hi Nihit. Did you say that you have converted "online"? Have you been baptised in an Orthodox church and do you regularly receive communion? If not I would strongly advise you to try and find an Orthodox church that you can attend in person. If you sincerely believe in Orthodoxy and wish to become Orthodox, baptism and holy communion are absolutely essential. If you have already been baptised then please forgive my comment.

O ONE TRUE RELIGION It is only logical that there would be one true religion. This is in harmony with the fact that the true God is a God, "not of disorder but of peace." (1 Corinthians 14:33) The Bible says that actually there is only "one faith." (Ephesians 4:5) Who, then, are the ones who form the body of true worshippers today? We do not hesitate to say that they are Jehovah's Witnesses.

The church Jesus built and is continuing to build till today , are the ones who are led by Christ. The pastors are chosen by Christ alone not man. Ephesians chapter 4:11 is clear. Get out of organized religion. Know who you are in Christ. Each of us needs to have a personal relationship with our Father God through the Holy Spirit to guide you daily. The Word Fulfils When The Messiah was speaking in Matthew 24, he was not addressing the church, but Israel. When he came the first time, it was for the Lost Sheep of The House of Israel (Ezekiel 34, especially verse 16)"He came to seek that which was lost..." and in Matthew 10:5,6)"These twelve Jesus sent forth, and commanded them, saying, Go not into the way of the Gentiles, and into any city of the Samaritans enter ye not: but go rather to the lost sheep of the house of Israel." This is when he sent the twelve. Later in chapter 15:24 concerning the Gentile woman, he said "...I am not sent but unto the lost sheep of the house of Israel." ---- When he came, he came as The Good Shepherd for the LOST SHEEP of Israel (Ezk 34; John 10); as The Prophet to speak God's Word (Deu 18:15-18); as The Messiah - to bind up the brokenhearted, to proclaim liberty to the captives, opening up of the prison to those that were bound (Is 61:1; Luke 4:17-19); as the Sacrificial Servant and Lamb of God (Is52:13-15; 53:1-12; John1:29,36) to take away the sin of the world. This was the first part of his earthly ministry: Israel had to be given their opportunity to receive him as their King, but they did not; therefore, he was their Rejected King - but will be received later. The church is a separate group from Israel. When The Messiah came, he taught his disciples to preach The Gospel of The Kingdom (aka: Millennial Kingdom; Messianic Kingdom) - Israel could have received their King and could have entered into the Messianic Kingdom or Kingdom Age. They did not. During the ministry, Jesus Christ taught his disciples (when he sent them to preach) the Gospel of the Kingdom (Matthew 10:7,8) And as ye go, preach, saying, The kingdom of heaven is at hand. Heal the sick, cleanse the lepers, raise the dead, cast out devils: freely ye have received, freely give. (Nothing to do with him dying). In Matthew 24, I know that many use this chapter to address the Church, but Christ was addressing Israel. In Daniel 9:24-27, God was addressing Daniel's people (not the Church). The angel, Gabriel came when Daniel was praying for Israel while they were still in captivity: there was no Church. And when Gabriel came, he said to Daniel in verse 24 "SEVENTY WEEKS are determined upon THY PEOPLE..." When Jesus Christ died, that was the end of the SIXTY NINTH WEEK - we are currently in the period of GRACE: they 70th Week of Daniel consists of the 7-Year Period in which Israel would make a covenant with THE BEAST. No Church. When Jesus Christ died, here are some of the sacrifices he fulfilled: 1) Leviticus 1 - The Burnt Offering; 2) Levitucus 2 - The Meat Offering (or grain); 3) Leviticus 3 -The Peace Offering; 4) Leviticus 4 - The Sin Offering; 5) Leviticus 5 - The Trespass Offering; 6) Leviticus 16 - The Atonement Sacrifice... and there are many more. When he died on the cross as the Suffering Servant and Lamb of God, these are some of the prophecies that became fulfilled. There is much more, but I need to stop. Salvation is of GRACE (God's Redemption At Christ's Expense) - and not of works. Paul mentions that in Ephesians (2:5,8) - and we have access to this grace through faith as Paul mentions in Romans several times, and in Galatians 2:16 "Knowing that a man is not justified by the works of the law, but by the faith of Jesus Christ, even we have believed in Jesus Christ, that we might be justified by the faith of Christ, and not by the works of the law: for by the works of the law shall no flesh be justified." Paul mentions it other times as well. The Apostle Paul taught "The Gospel of Grace" - Acts 20:24)"...which I have received of The Lord Jesus, to testify the GOSPEL OF THE GRACE OF GOD." Paul's Gospel, he called in Romans Chapter 1: 1)Verse 1 "...Gospel of God," 2)Verse 9 "...Gospel of His Son..." 3)Verse 15 "...the Gospel..." 4)Verse 16 "...Gospel of Christ..." - And Paul preached it in Acts 13(:38, 39) "Be it known unto you therefore, men and brethren, that through this man is preached unto you the forgiveness of sins: And by him all that believe are justified from all things, from which ye could not be justified by the law of Moses." This is the Gospel of Grace. During this period of grace in which we are living in: we are in 2000 years of GRACE. Once the Church is taken up (as the Bride of Christ) there is a place in New Jerusalem which is above; and while The Church is taken up, God will work with Israel again. The Church has the indwelling of The Holy Ghost (1Cor3,6; 2Cor6; Eph1) - Israel did not have that. Once we have been saved, The Holy Ghost indwells us. This is a special gift: the Gift of The Holy Ghost. In the Old Testament times, The Holy Ghost would come down upon men, but would stay for a limited time. Once the rapture occurs, those that heard the message and rejected it - those are the ones that God will reject. In 2Thessalonians 2:7-12, Paul explains it, especially in verses 10-12 "And with all deceivableness of unrighteousness in them that perish; because they received not the love of the truth, that they might be saved. And for this cause God shall send them strong delusion, that they should believe a lie: That they all might be damned who believed not the truth, but had pleasure in unrighteousness." These are those that heard the Gospel of The Grace of God, but rejected it. Many of these instead listened to the Prince of the Power of The Air in Ephesians 2:2 "Wherein in time past ye walked according to the course of this world, according to the prince of the power of the air, the spirit that now worketh in the children of disobedience:" Right now that wicked prince uses: "Mainstream Media; Politics; Education; Humanism; and other things" - this is going on right now. Those that have never heard 'The Gospel of The Grace' may have an opportunity to hear 'The Gospel of The Kingdom' - where they could be saved. They won't be part of the Church, but they will be saved. Many of them will die for standing for the truth, but they will be saved. Get ready now. The Rapture of The Church will happen soon: it could be in 3 years, 30 years, or even 300 years from now - but it could be even sooner. Believe what the Apostle Paul said when he preached: Be it known unto you therefore, men and brethren, that through this man is preached unto you the forgiveness of sins: And by him all that believe are justified from all things, from which ye could not be justified by the law of Moses. [Acts 13:38,39]

A rather biased view of Catholics and Protestants. But maybe no one expected a simple presentation of objective facts. He plays a little fast and loose with his interpretations, especially of changes wrought by Constantine and Charlemagne. If this is your first intro to Church history, you really need to expand your horizons. Go to your state university and check out the library and the bookstore. Don't accept just a single viewpoint. Hopefully, his theology is going to be better.

Christianity didn't remain unified all the way to 1054. You totally missed the Chalcedonian schism in 431 and 451. That's when the Egyptian, Ethiopian, Eritrean, Armenian, Cilicia, Syriac, and Indian churches broke away over Christological differences. Kind of a huge chunk of Christianity.

Can you tell me when iconography was added to the Eastern and Western Church? Obviously it occurred after the church became Gentile as the Jewish leadership of the first century would not have accepted prayer to saints or burning candles to saints, etc. It would have been too similar to Roman paganism. Also they would pray to God alone. Thanks.

@Christa Aronis A tradition that Luke was a painter seems to have no basis in fact. Several images of Mary appeared in later centuries claiming him as a painter but these claims were proved false. Because of this tradition, however, he is considered a patron of painters of pictures and is often portrayed as painting pictures of Mary.
@titianmom
@titianmom Жыл бұрын
@charlie Aronis yes, they are saying that Luke painted a picture of Mary. I appreciate the Orthodox and read some of their works. I use the LXX for Bible study. I don't disagree that there are too many Bible translations, but that's a product of Capitalism not Protestantism lol. Publishers and I am assuming scholars make money on them. Thus more Bible versions. People typically use their Bibles for many years so they publish another to get you to shop more...but trust me, no lay person is asking for more. I find it amusing what your leadership says about the "hedorodox West". Some of it is accurate but some of it is nonsense. I can assure you that Protestants don't discuss the woes and errors of Orthodoxy at all. Just isn't on our radar. We don't talk about Catholics either. There are better things to do, I suppose. Best wishes...
@titianmom
@titianmom Жыл бұрын
@charlie Aronis Assuming that the $ was a 4, then you agree that iconography started way later than the 1st century and the time of the Apostles. So the Greek side of the church added this to their practices along with the robes, gilded, elaborate churches (adopted in the East after Rome moved to Constantinople), etc. So basically, the Orthodox aren't all that Orthodox, after all. But neither are the Catholics or the Protestants. A lot has changed since the 1st century church...but at least, Jesus is still Lord. Thanks.

@@titianmom The Tabernacle was adorned with Images, St. David in the Psalms "Bowed to the Temple(A Physical Object) in awe of You(Referring to God)" this is where we receive our theology of Icons. As for Vestments and Incense, these things were prophesied by Prophet Malachi. In the 1st and 2nd Century there are few examples of Iconography because Christians were in a period of Persecution, but we do have evidence of Liturgical Vestments and Liturgical Worship.
@titianmom
@titianmom Жыл бұрын
@@acekoala457 Not accurate at all. In the OT, the Israelites never prayed to the Menorah or table of Shewbread or Ark or the Temple. In prayer, they pointed TOWARD the Temple from all over Israel because the presence of God dwelled among them in the Holy of Holies. In Ezekiel, the prophet saw God's presence leave the Temple. The items were sacred because they were commanded by God, but mainly, it was God who chose to dwell among them. I have no problem with Liturgy. I do have a problem with people making up their form of religion and forcing the scriptures to conform to an invented religious practice.
