The monsters are, oddly, as whimsical and wonderful as the scenery they are in. Although they are creepy, they don't seem threatening but instead curious. As if they were also children.

For eome reason I like to think that the had popping monster follows them throughout thegame and that the creature with the trident/pitchfork was less of a hostile creature as instead of killing the girl its dragging, it just drags her. That is at the very least my headcannon for this.
