Hi great and very informative video. I'm considering visiting either Eiland or Tshipise campsite this June to avoid the cold in Gauteng, I've also watched your Tshipise review. How would you say they compare to each other? My kids are 5 and 10 so I have to have them in mind when selecting the campsite. Thanks!
@GallivantingSA2 ай бұрын
Hi there BananaCamper! To start with, I love both, but I think your kids would prefer Eiland - Tshipise, my favourite winter campsite is filled with "swaletjies" and pensioners over the winter months - Eiland too has a number of more senior campers, but there definitely were more children there when we visited in June 2023. Please check, but I think Eiland is more expensive, especially during the school holidays (but we are only 2 and the sites take up to 6 I think, which makes a difference). Both have lots of activities for the whole family and both have fantastic outdoor warm/hot pools. Tshipise is also further in distance. Both are fairly isolated in that it all happens on the resort with very little options nearby to explore. We are off to Tshipise for some of June and all of July, but my suggestion would be Eiland for your children.

@@GallivantingSA Thank you for your recommendation. I've been to a few ATKV and Forever resorts and my perception is the ATKV network has a better standard (in general). Also, you can book a specific site on ATKV and Forever is first come first serve which for me is not good as I always come late to the the resort. I'm still monitoring the weather and hopefully it will be warm enough for a good camping in June!

We went here for a break back in 1990 . If I recall, this was an Overvaal resort at the time. We spent a week in December . Absolutely fantastic. I do miss South Africa and camping holidays. Europe is just not the same …AT ALL 😀😀

How many campsites in Haywards?
@GallivantingSA5 ай бұрын
They have 22 campsites - 3 are clustered centrally and ideal for larger groups and families - the others all follow the fenceline looking out into the reserve. Most have a paved slab but some are grass only. Sites 1 - 8 have the best view of passing animals.

Thanks for the kind words and support 😀. Working remotely in the Kruger for any length of time is a problem - just doing the basics is generally possible using the Vodacom network or the WiFi now available in some of the restaurants, but generally it's pretty hit and miss 🤔

I stayed there a couple of times and absolutely loved it because I could just get out of my tent and go for a surf.. Also I just loved the outlook overlooking the ocean and the general vibe. The Salt Rock Hotel next to it to it is a wonderful bonus because it's a great place to go and have a drink.

Camped here a few times, generally very good. Was not overly impressed with how cramped some of the paved private ablution sites are and the private ablution facilities could have been a lot better. I prefer the general camp sites making use of the shared ablutions. Also, as per another comment, can be dusty during dryer times.
@GallivantingSA8 ай бұрын
Agree with you 100% - when you're in a group with friends the more cramped paved sites are less of an issue, but if you're on own, a little more elbow room is nice :)

Mmm, a very fair question. The official answer is no, they are not pet friendly. However I have seen people sneak in small dogs. There are a number of feral cats on the property that are cared for by the resort.

Many campers have given bad reviews about the Park's appointed staff, residing in the park's, and their behavior, also that of owner's appointed management residing next door in the Salt Rock Hotel, which they report to! Also noisy parties with loud music on the lawn in front of the hotel, right next to the caravan park...

Which camp number is best for privacy?
@GallivantingSA10 ай бұрын
I don't have numbers but when you drive in, go right and to the end - there are some nice shady spots where no-one passes you. The alternative is to turn left and follow the road through the campsite -at the very end the road narrows as it goes to the dam - on the right nestled in lots of trees are two sites that also are "apart" from the rest of the campsite. The best sites are on The Island but these are for group bookings.
