There were a lot of regional kings but also certain kings like Edward I built many castles particularly in Wales to control the country after he'd taken it

The countryside looks like that because it is constantly maintained, with conservation, grazing etc and that's being going on for thousands of years in some places.

I like to think Churchill knew what he was doing when we bombed Berlin, the retaliation from Hitler to bomb our cities was inevitable….thus stopping us having our airfields being destroyed…

what is not mentioned is chatham dockyard, which was heavily bombed during the war and my dad’s family lived on the isle of sheppey and the his cousin house was bombed and it killed all the family. my dad was born in 1940 and he said the scariest thing was hearing a doodle bug coming over and when it went quiet you knew it was going to drop and explore. there is a ship off the sheppey coast and this filled with explosive and was sunk during ww2. they are still trying to remove it safely and not blow the island away. all of my grandfathers served in ww2 as a rear gunner and as a stoke and i was lucky enough to have many conversations with them

The Battle of Britain was _never_ going to go Germany's way. At most they _might_ have forced the RAF to temporarily abandon some of their coastal fields, but that's about it. Also, even with control of the skies, Germany would have struggled to land any troops, not only because of their complete lack of proper landing craft (they planned to use converted river barges, most of which were un-powered, and none of which had any sea-keeping ability), but also the slight issue posed by the Royal Navy. 'Slight' in this case being, they could bring everything up to battleships to the party, while, Germany couldn't put up more than a handful of cruisers.

just to add Cornwall is the most beautiful place in the UK and Bath is close to Cornwall and that is amazing too. named Bath after the ancient Roman Baths in the area, also nearby to Cornwall and Bath is Stonehenge. So well worth visiting that area.

It was so interesting what you said about cavalry, that was Poland's big problem. Despite having a large (extremely brave) army it was almost entirely cavalry. They didn't stand a chance against the Blitzkrieg (Lightning War), which had tanks. Now you know why I love London so much, I live nearly a 100 miles away and go there as often as possible, and every time I just walk about feeling the history. We owe everything to those young men, all gone now but never to be forgotten. Thank you for your wonderful appraisal of the film 💖🙋‍♀️🇬🇧🇺🇲

My grandmother gave birth to my mum on this day, the car that took her to a hospital had a mattress on the roof because of the shrapnel falling from the sky on to rural kent. Grandmother owned a pub in a little kent village which was on the edge of a airfield used by the RAF who were regulars at the pub. My father who was 12 at the time was that day trapped in the ruins of his aunts house which had partially destroyed by a dropped bomb. Dad was pinned under his neighbours body , the dear woman bled out and died on top him 😢

Just one more little thing, we are the same latitude as Canada and Scotland is only 2 degrees from the arctic circle that hail you saw is normally a front to a thunderstorm. You could be in Greenwich park way back in the late 1980s walking up to the Greenwich naval museum and some six to eight hundred feet above is the museums observatory up the hill just behind the main museum and it snows in June I know, because we took two Australians up that hill and it was bloody cold, about eight hundred feet higher than below, our summer wear was not right for winter,we got in the building and asked why is it summer down there and snowing up and winter here, the guard said, it does that oh it's been snowing again we had sleet yesterday and the day before hail and thunder no lightning though, even the barometers was showing a large drop in temperature, we then looked at the telescopes the night sky big camera thing lecture wasn't open. So we went down the hill to the museum. I bought some coins one bronze large coin with Edmond Hailey on one side and the comet on the other side with date 1986. And a coin and stamp of the comets passing on overhead a few years ago first day cover, it's specially printed letter with a group of stamps on it by the post office and sold they are collectable here Love mom

That afternoon tea was a fake version, got to watch for that in touristy areas. The best places are either posh hotels or restaurants, or cream teas mostly in the West Country. For the record beans are not traditional for full English, neither are hash browns, of course, if you had black pudding with it that's regional and not to my taste. Harrods is for viewing only for most people, Fortnum & Mason's is really lovely and more manageable, my preference when in London, also pricey though. I always feel that St Paul's must have been saved by Divine Intervention. Cathedrals are churches of course, but we always refer to cathedral as such to acknowledge their status of being higher than a regular church. 🤪🙋‍♀️🇬🇧

Hi, it's so good to see people who really appreciate the Beauty of the UK . As a Yorkshire lass I'm a little bit biased but the places that you have just seen are just as beautiful in real life! And really, you've just scratched the surface! Try to bear in mind that the scenery can change quite dramatically from season to season, Autumn is my personal favourite. If you were to drive through the moors in late August they would be a sea of purple as the heather is in bloom. Not only do the Moors and Dales look spectacular but the air is very pure and full of beautiful fragrances. I do hope that you return for another visit and if you do I would be happy to give you and guidance or suggest places that I know you would love to experience

I was stressed watching you let the water cool for the noodles, you need boiling water! Kettles are for more things than tea, they are really useful People always have too much Marmite, you have to aim for the smallest you can do on toast, or whatever, seriously strong stuff 😊 I think you are used to more salt and chemicals in your noodles I'm not keen on Branston Pickle, but chutneys are lovely, smoother, less vinegar hit, more like 'Grandma used to make' kind of thing. Cadbury had to change their recipe in America, to include the junk, (sorry), which is why it isn't anything like UK chocolate . Did you ever discover that you were eating blackcurrants, rather than cherries, at Borough Markets? No wonder it didn't taste of cherries!😜 🙋‍♀️🇬🇧🤗

It was scary driving in France on the other side 😳 I find it more nerve-wracking crossing the road than actually driving for some reason 😊 Your head seems always to be on the swivel when working out what to do. I'm a early freak, almost paranoid about being late Sadly, some of the women's libbers have ruined it for those if us who appreciate manners, I feel sorry for men who are courteous but get treated like dirt for their efforts. If someone is holding your place in the queue, could be a person you are with or the next in line if they are helpful, then it's fine. We don't like queuing, we just dislike queue jumpers more! When you've been waiting ages there is nothing worse than someone cutting in 😡 People trying to get home on the tube get really fed up with other people blocking their way. I made that mistake the 1st time used the escalator in London, many decades ago 😅 🙋‍♀️🇬🇧🤪

The reason films are made abroad is because of the population numbers Although we have the real thing it is almost impossible to take a place over dor the duration required to make a film In New Zealand they have more sheep than people😂 but I take your point on this You observe well, you say that you are dumb or whatever, but truthfully you both are deep and thoughtful. I hope you removed your hat indoors, especially in cafes/restaurants, that rule is for men only. Bad form just about everywhere except the States, I know it's not to be rude, it's what you are used to. I was in a hotel in Munich once, where an American guy routinely went to breakfast and dinner wearing his stetson, wouldn't take it off, I guess he wanted us all to know that he was from Texas. Thank goodness he wasn't typical, but the same applies to all headgear so that is where the baseball cap comes in, almost a fixture with American men, so this is just a tip, and don't put it on the table either, (even worse!) 😅 With that in mind, you are good to go, mistakes are totally forgivable fun even, but some things are more important. 💖🙋‍♀️🇬🇧

I love how you pronounce the names properly. Listening to Americans giving UK video voice overs can be painful at times, they can get so much wrong. I live in Dorset, part of the Jurassic Coast, your son would love fossil hunting, they do exist!. I can see Old Harry Rocks from the 7 mile sandy beach at Bournemouth. The white cliffs are chalk, and common along the south coast. I don't know if you made it to Oxford, but you could have just popped on a train and got there quickly. King Arthur was in England Edinburgh is pronounced as Edinbru, the bru being like brunt but without the nt. At least I hope that is correct, sorry to all Scots who are cringing at this. Really glad you are enjoying the UK, you certainly fit in well. We are having a bad summer, but usually on the south coast we get nice temps in the 70s, as you put it, with hotter spells. Rarely snow. The further up you go generally the cooler it gets. If you want snow Scotland is your best bet Please come back soon 💖🙋‍♀️🇬🇧🏴󠁧󠁢󠁥󠁮󠁧󠁿🤪
