Horowitz is one of the greatest pianists and musicians that ever lived, which I’ve written many comments about. It’s interesting to recognize, though, Horowitz’s political impact (dare I say showcase) and the patriotism he effused. Horowitz and Van Cliburn were enormous “high culture” figures for America to tout during the peak of the Cold War

Horowitz was invited by the Carnegie Hall management to try out the instruments in New York Steinway showroom and choose one. They would purchase it for the historic concert

Wow this is the first time in my life that I actually don't like Horowitz's interpretation of a piece. I'm a diehard Horowitz fan.

This performance is too intense for Whit House. But,people who can listen to this performance are so happiness.

This is how it should have sounded. Having the technique to play twice as fast says she is a good technician, never a good musician. And I hate that dress. Musicians prefer to let the music sing rather than have you concentrate on body parts. kzfaq.info/get/bejne/d8eXZ6yjx6-2m4E.htmlsi=7vgmyEo-1091jOLL

He could be really erratic in concert, often winding up the tension too much. But this is really fantastic. All of the tools used to make a brilliant edifice.

For me this is the perfect performance. Newer pianists only want to sound different, and sacrifice the soul of the piece. Here you can clearly see Horowitz is channelling from elsewhere…

I'm don't agree with Horowitz's style on all pieces, but on this one he hits the mark in a unique way. As usual his octave runs are un paralleled and he is able to make the piece sound different than the standard performances.

Unbelievable performance of this "crazy" work! But the craziest passage is certainly the "ostinato" between bars 83 and 102,(here 2:57 to 3:35) which I have never been able to understand! What was Chopin trying to say to us?

He wrote this arrangement in the 1920s and he played variations of it throughout most of his concert career. The 1968 Carnegie Hall recording which was live was one of the best and the transcription of the music is available.
